On the subjective of guides I can see some peoples points. I tend to do dungeons and normal raids on patch day/week, i don't think guides are needed for normal dungeons. Although I do think after a certain amount of time has passed people should at least look up some of the moves for things like Weeping City/A8( Share damage marker I have lost count how many people run off with it).
When I take new players into Weeping City, I give them the wiki on Weeping and tell them to glance over it mainly the Ozma section. I will then give them tips in the FC chat during/before the fight.
If he spams FATE it means he must have enough seals to buy proper lvl 40 equipment.
And the games tells you you need to do to your class quests, and the last class quest informs you about the job quest.
So, for that situation to be "reasonable", this player would have to :Ok, at one point can we say that someone is being bad on purpose or just doesn't give a damn without being called toxic ?
- No do the MSQ up to level 40
- Not bother doing its class quest to stay uninformed about the job quest
- Not leveling through FATEs or wasting all his seals on anything but gear
- Not doing Brayflox's Longstop of Qarn to 1) being already told that he should have a job by now and 2) not having any reasonable gear dropped
- Having no idea that you shoul keep your stuff as close as possible to your actual level
Some people just -really- do not know better. Ignorance to the max. I had met a level 41ish WHM who was just doing FATEs because for some reason they couldn't continue with their MSQs. This newbie sprout had mentioned while I was FATE spamming in Northern Thanalan. Took a look at her gear, it was really fucking bad. I told her about gearing and how it was very important, especially the main hand. I have no idea how she did after that but she was receptive. I honestly am not sure how everyone is talking about how you can actually get good HQ gear because when I did the 2.0 MSQ I was always asking my friends for help gear wise.
How do you even know if the player even knows that the grand company quartermaster sells him gear? We -assume- they know these things based on our own knowledge but it's really easy to be ignorant to what is going on in the game to help a player. Is that right? Is that fair to the people having to play? No. But just leaving them because we've deemed them garbage without question is ridiculous.
If we actually knew what words were spoken we'd know just how toxic someone is. Toxicity isn't from being bad. Toxicity is being bad and being told how to fix it and blowing it off. Toxicity is seeing someone bad and not caring to see if someone just doesn't know better.

Came HW, I think that gear was added to several main quests so that you always had access to appropriate gear. (Confirmation needed)
Because the game tells you. If someone skips dialogue in a Final Fantasy game, he's to blame
It's the same for basic RPG knowledge like gearing, talking to NPC... especially those with blatant yellow excalmations points over their head, and even moreso if their's a "+" sign added to it.
Of course leaving them is a bad idea, but if they think that "First run" is a valid excuse for failing at everything not tied to the actual dungeon, yet it's clear they're not even trying.
I see the point about doing content blind and learning the hard way. I love doing just that in SINGLE player games, but that's not a luxury I can afford here.
Here, I'm tanking for a group of people who are depending on me. If I go in blind, there's a good chance that I'm reading my healer his last rites when I hit the ready check. I've felt the frustration of party members who can't pull their weight in MMO's. I would never want to be the cause of that frustration.
When it comes to dungeons in general, the basic etiquette should be to at least have your gear 2-3 levels close to the min of X dungeon, but don't be a dick and apply non main stat gear to your gear to inflate your stats because then you are actually just making things worse for yourself.
I can stand people not knowing mechanics, but I can't stand it when people put on the wrong piece of accessory just so they can get high enough for content, cause the reality is they aren't high enough for the content since IL Is nothing more than a number that says you should be meeting a certain main stat treshold. But you don't hit that treshold when your accessories are a mix of VIT, STR, DEX and MND.
Check his level man. Right now he's doing Cutter's Cry and I believe DD. He's also going in with the mindset of not holding back the party, something I'd assume people would like more. He's also at the point where PLD can finally hold agro comfortably.
For me and you who got to do this all while it was new and there were no expectations, its hard to see the need for a guide. But if someone wants to do there role right and does the prep work ahead of time it leads to a smoother run. More enjoyment for everyone.
That is a massive exaggeration, I tell you what the only difference is that I can't dps as much with an experienced tank. Which results in it adding an extra 5-10 mins to my run. Lol Last rites lol
