Another post by someone who has no idea what he's talking about. First, you assume that every craftswoman has millions of gil stashed away. In actual fact, you'll find combat classes generally have more disposable income than crafters because every quest and dungeon run drops gil, and they have little to no reason to spend any of it since all of the best gear costs nothing to obtain but time. Crafters, on the other hand, will use said gil to purchase rare materials or crystals to continue their craft and pour millions into getting their skills to a level where they can make the stuff which actually makes that kind of gil in the first place.

There are also those players who eke out a living on low-cost items and rely on things like materia melds and such to supplement the advancement of their crafts. Furthermore, comparing this game to every other FF game would be meaningless as only FFXI actually has crafting. FFXI crafting is not just a big industry, but they can make some of the top tier equipment in the entire game. Here, we're stuck with second best (if even that) equipment, and pretty outfits that have zero stats on them.

People here are extremely biased towards crafters. You see them as money-hoarding fat-cats, when the reality is most of us aren't all that rich and are heavily reliant on the wealth of our peers. Most crafting is done to further our crafting, whether that's making new tools and gear to push us to that next level, or crafting collectibles for scrips. It's very circular. But then, I suppose I'm just arguing with someone who only see's dollar signs in their eyes whenever they look at crafting jobs.
