Again You are NOT forced to craft but it does require a certain level of social/politeness all you have to do is offer a reasonable tip (MOST Crafters will meld for free but if any crafter demands like 10k for a meld is just simply a jerk). A small tip especially if you ask for more than one meld is polite.

If you're saying you can't get one person to offer to meld gear for you idyllshire with a /shout Can (whavtever you need) spare a moment for level 60 melds? Offering a small tip.--- I think you may have a more serious problem - like being on too many BLists (or blisting too many real players)

SE has been making it so much easier on crafters to meld.

I have 3 character with full 60 crafting (all 2 star capable - working on 3 star capable now T_T - there is nothing wrong with the levelling grind to get there.
If it's not your cup of tea, shout or ask a FC mate. Not to mention crafting self-repairs will help when you have a derp moment and you realize your gear will break in that run and repair your gear right there in the dungeon.

Nope. It's something else crafters are good for. You're essentially ignoring a large part of the game by not crafting, so it's kinda your own fault if you have to get help from someone else.

    Barrett felt like an idiot.

It's also worth mentioning...that to Remove Materia they would just:
"Take the ball out of the hole."
And the Materia & item did not get destroyed in the process.

And here you miss the "Different system" part of my comment.

I did not miss that part of your comment.
But honestly this shouldn't be an issue. Melding (like repairing) just should not be an issue like this.

Like repairing it should be something that players can do themselves. Either by NPC or like in other MMOs, through their own menu. This the only MMO that requires another person to update/slot your own gear.

Offline game or not. FF7 had the right idea. True Materia in the game served more a bigger purpose than stats.
But, the concept was sound. Made sense.

Why do we need a Catalyst for a slot?
Are we stuffing the slot with paper/glue so the orb doesn't fall out?
Can the Warrior of Light honestly not put a ball into a hole?

Leveling crafting classes is extremely tedious and most people have no desire to spend the necessary amount of time on it when they could be doing something else.

The game should never force that on players. With endgame gear now having slots, it's time to let everyone at least affix Materia to the existing slots. Crafters still have the actual crafted gear to themselves and that's what makes them gil, so it's not like letting everyone meld hurts them in any way. All the current system does is force players to keep hassling crafters constantly for no benefit to anyone.

    How interestingly hypocritical.

I see raiders complaining about having to do something they don't want to do (craft) in order to get something they want (materia melding), and being upset when people are telling them that they're being lazy.

Isn't it the raiders who called casuals 'lazy' for wanting something (story) without having to do something they didn't want to do (raid)?

    Turnabout is fair play.

Ah yes, remember that time I made a sweeping generalization and then a thing happened that seemingly confirmed my biased opinions and beliefs? Clearly this confirmed my biased opinions and beliefs! No need to reflect upon nuance or the like.

Not to mention how many raiders complain there's nothing to do once they've cleared all their weekly lockouts. They could actually slowly level their crafts with GC turn ins and leves. There's plenty of crafting rotation macros listed all over the interwebs. It's pretty hypocritical all right, especially if they're willfully ignoring an aspect of the game and complaining there's nothing to do and it's not handed to them on a silver platter. XD

You don't even need top end gear/stats to meld... just hit 60. If you have no interest in crafting just leave them in what gear they have and ignore scrips XD
