Even taking into account the limited sources I don't think you Materia will be ridiculously expensive. The Diadem will be getting a revamp and there will be a lot more Materia entering the market as people will see Diadem farming as a viable alternative to crafting to make money.
Even then I'm not sure of the issue. I make plenty of Gil from just doing dungeons, challenge logs and daily hunts. Plus I suspect most people outside of top level raids will be quite accepting of tier 4 melds.
This is a baby step for customisation. Sure its not much but anyone expecting a huge overhaul mid expansion cycle is being rather unrealistic. Such a big move in the middle of a patch cycle is highly risky. With an expansion it will be far easier to test such a system as its integrated into the rebalancing caused by levelling. At least this is a start.
If you get kicked allot for not being good enough, you can get all the materia and gear in the world and still not fix the problem. And being kicked from groups for not being good enough. Yeah, i've already experienced that in many games. Not a pleasant experience.
You might as well say: "Quit the game."
You also have the option of not putting on your helmet or chest plate. However, nobody wants to do that.
The difference is, I can get a helmet and chest plate from the dungeons. However, I can't fill the slots doing that.
*shrug*
I'm not even sure how you attach materia, sphere scroll aside. If it has anything to do with crafting or crafters, I'll just stay a few malms away from the whole thing and take my tome gear as it is.
Assuming it works the way it does now, attaching Materia will require a crafter and Carbonized Matter. Actually now that I think about it they better make Tier 5 carbonized matter easier to get otherwise it will cost a fortune. That, rather than the actual materia, will be where the cost is.
That said, its a very easy process to attach meteria and you don't even need to give the materia to the crafter. You can just right click on them and 'Request Meld' and it lets you use the Melding interface. The crafter just needs to click to confirm the meld.
Diadem have an increased spiritbind rate. So put on crafted ilevel 160+ gear and jump into the action.
And roll on every gear that drop, exchange them for tokens and buy materias with the diadem tokens.

I agree with the OP, but, I agree only for one reason that is totally personal and many people will criticalize so, I don't care admitting it....
I HATE CRAFTERS. It's one of the worse things of the game, they require you a time not everyone can afford to, they are not enjoyable or fun, and, what's worse, they are making them useful... At the beginning of 2.1 to 2.2, (thanks god) they were pretty useless. But now you need them for everything, you need them for your relic, you need them for optimal raiding foods and potions, you WILL NEED them for materia, and now WILL NEED them for i210 HQ pentamelded gear for next raid tier (3.2 patchnotes) nice.... Really...
OLD signature is OLD... Meh, too nostalgic to change anyways.

Ouch. It's not everyday someone outright in the forums outright tells you that they hate you and that they wish the gameplay you enjoy was useless.I agree with the OP, but, I agree only for one reason that is totally personal and many people will criticalize so, I don't care admitting it....

we will see, but if they don't change the way to get materia, not everyone want to spend hours to kill stuff for break stuff and get random materia of elemental resistance, nor give them a better us it will lead us nowhere.
soo far it's part of the change they haven't give us enough information for really know where it will lead us.
