I'm quite bitter. I wasn't expecting much from the Anima relics. If they had been more of the same, I'd have been fine. But this seems much worse. Maybe I'm mistaken, because I didn't do the old relic until after 3.0 was out and didn't find it worth it to go beyond Zenith, but I don't think it was ever this bad. You bought a single expensive crafted item, killed some beastmen, killed hard mode primals, and did some actual new trials! Bam, you've got your base relic. The later steps were big grinds, but you got an upgrade for each, and I don't think any of them were this extreme.

Anima seems like it took several of the worst steps of the original relics and condensed them into just the base. Hundreds of hours of old content that we've already done to death. It's so absurd, and makes me question what the hell SE is thinking. Months of delay for no new content and the most absurd grind I've ever seen. I wasn't considering unsubbing before, but this was shaken my faith in the game

I find the trashing of the zeta I worked so hard on (and modified to my liking) for nothing more than replacing an atma grind quest (which is horribly grindy but not worth my frikkin zeta blood and tears) rather disheartening. I know the sphere scroll quest came at a later time but with all the work we put into these things we should have a lot more customizing capability anyway (from the start even). And speaking at least from seeing the blm final weapon, the stats on that thing are positively cringe worthy, hardly worth starting over again. I would have done the grind, worked my tail off for a weapon that I could have made more my own, stats I thought fit my class more than what apparently SE figured a blm should have. This thing will be obsolete even before it's finished.

I also want to heavily disagree with the amount of crafted items required. Unless you personally spent a ton of time on these classes or have some connections, you're going to be shelling out a small fortune (if you can even afford that). It is extremely unfair to again make our relics a profit for other players. Give me a grind, give me things to run and stuff to kill, but don't make me buy some other player a bloody house just for my weapon to be completed.

Personally I'll just hug my lovely zeta and let it gather dust in the armory, hang on till we eventually see the gobdip and just use my eso weapon. Sad, I was looking forward to this update.

You're convinced it won't, and I still have faith that it might. I don't think I'm 'drinking the kool-aid' as you put it, mainly because I'm going to wait a patch before I start on this to see if there IS any change. I'm not plowing blindly ahead here.
I don't want you to take these as the words of a jaded vet, but they're going to come out that way, and so be it. I had the same mindset of "wait for next patch, things will get better." In terms of the 2.X relic, Atma was horrible. The worst. But damn, I did it. For what? A change in my weapon's nomenclature, a reskin, and NO stat bonuses. Just wait, it'll get better, I told myself. I won't go through every stage of the relic, but they went back and forth, sometimes tolerable, sometimes not. But never better. In fact, zeta recycled the exact light gaining convention of nexus, just 2 steps later in the chain. It seems they had run out of ideas by the time the first relic was even finished.

Then, in this relic, we see many of the same conventions coming back. I fear that, as 3.0 follows 2.X's gear progression nearly verbatim, the relic will follow suit. I'm all for putting players' noses to the grindstone. There's a serious lack of long term goals, especially for those without the schedule, skill, or patience for raids, and the relic is a great opportunity to give the players just that. However, I don't think giving a long checklist of content the player has already experienced and saying "Pick your poison, surely you abhor one or two of these grinds less than the others," is the ideal way to do it. It's a grind, a long term goal, yes, but it's a tired grind, with tired conventions and tired content; a grind based on fortitude rather than enjoyment.

The relic won't stay relevant for long, as it will certainly require another series of steps to further upgrade it. It will waver in strength from on-par raid weapon to mildly superior raid weapon. That's ok, in theory, as the dev team cooks up new ideas and fresh grinds now that we've served as guinea pigs for the 2.X relic. Except, there aren't any fresh grinds. It's a shiny new carrot on a two year old stick, and it's disappointing more than anything else.

I do doubt, except for the most dedicated ones, that you can acquire the i200 step your relic weapon within a month or two. Alone the tours into Alex will suck you dry, and we aren't even talking about the Beast Tribe Tokens, Tomes and HQ items.
That's too much, even for a Relic Quest STEP.

The problem here is not the time, is how time is spent, if i want to do fate grind, dungeon grinds and atma grinds, i have 2.0 relic quests, 11 of them to make, for them to last ages.

How WoW "Relics" are. They will take quite a while to finish, but damn that long progress line looks FUN to make.

So if someone makes an amusement park, and they have games where you swim in cat poop, and who can watch the paint dry the longest before you fall asleep. But they also have a roller coaster and a water slide. People want more different kinds of water slides and roller coasters. You think it's not the amusement park's fault if they keep making games and rides no one likes? No it's the customer's fault for not forcing themselves to like everything about the park.

Crap argument will always be a crap argument.

If you just did Alex runs, it amounts to twenty a day over a month (620/30). Consider you can supplement in Hunts, Beast Tribe Dailies and etc. It isn't quite so grueling. The estimate I've heard on reddit and streams is 24 days.

Those Alex runs would take about five hours per day, every day (assuming 15 minutes each, disregarding queue time). That's a lot of playtime, and that's doing NOTHING else in that five hours. Just nonstop Alex, with what is likely all or most of your free time, for a month. That seems quite grueling to me.
