EMMMM...no, Samurai was intended to be a tank IN FACT it was going to be the tank for this expansion and ninja was suppose to be released along side with the samurai that's why ninja was going to be the melee, machinist the range and the other respective healer and tank(samurai). Reason YOSHI-P decided to go for Dark Knight was because it didn't fit with the theme of heavensward and they though it would be out of place to have a character like that on a environment like Ishgard. Aside from that I've never seen him or read or view him saying that he wants samurai to be a dps on any of the live letter, but what ut was obvious it was that the initial intended class for samurai was TANK, whether that changes on the future only time will tell but samurai was tank not a DPS even on XI was intended to be a TANK but we all know what happened there...
