You have access to all the planned new recipe content but you are required as has always been the case to put in effort to obtain them all if that is what you want. You can't craft any DoH classes recipes unless put in the effort to level the relevant classes, you cant omni-craft unless put in the effort leveling multiple classes, you can't craft many of the star type recipes unless put in the effort to gain such things as master books, you can't craft most recipes or especially HQ unless you put in effort to gear up appropriately and you will fail to craft many recipes unless put in the effort to better manage your rotations. Now SE are making specializations actually worthwhile to many of us with this news...the same applies as always has though in that it would require effort if you want to craft all specialization recipes.

You are not locked out of anything that you putting in effort cannot enable/allow/access if you so chose. This really is not that different to how SE have always handled recipes and the requirement of additional effort to obtain them all only this time they are trying to push people to be more cooperative and work together, share burdens and help each other advance which are all good things while at same time benefiting those who wish to only focus on a specialization. SE adding decent value to becoming a specialist while at same time not stopping anyone else from leveling an alt to obtain every single specialization if they cared so much about having them all...simply by putting in additional effort like people have always had to put in to obtain more recipes in the past. Now I will have to wait to see how they implement it and such but as far as I am concerned SE are doing the right thing and they listened to the right people on this so it was not a bad request in the first place.

We only have access to everything in a very technical sense. In practice, we can only craft everything by going through a very time-consuming and grindy process of gil farming which essentially bars the vast majority of the playerbase from the content.

At the start of 2.0, Crafting and Gathering was a fun side-activity that you could use to gear up your battle classes with a reasonable amount of effort. This was changed to accomodate the players complaining about too much competition on the MB to the detriment of the majority of the playerbase. Heavensward just made things even worse.

Potions are more profitable than glamour items by default because raiders have to keep buying them.

It'll take balancing of course and culinarian and alchemy will always have an edge over other crafts simply because of the nature of those items and how they go hand in hand in raiding, but you'll be able to make money with glamour items and gear for gatherers as well, so you'll have profit no matter what you pick.
I see you believe you are on WoW. Well welcome to Final Fantasy 14. Potions last ten seconds so are practically useless. People don't buy food for raids. Very few people do serious raid content so even if they did buy food for raids it wouldn't match the simple fact of glamour value. More people buy housing stuff than potions and as we know "NO one has a house!"

What is this "forced to be omni" that people keep throwing around? Source?

I'm not an omni, and don't feel like I'm being forced to omni. So already not everyone is being forced to omni; trying to say otherwise and using that as the crux of your arguments is blatantly untrue. Nobody's being forced to do anything.

You live in your own little world, clearly. Raid food sells like hotcakes on my server, potions too. Saying that nobody buys them is not only an exaggeration, but the complete opposite of reality.

Yep, the amount of time to craft a single piece of equipment is unreasonably long at the moment. It takes 4.5 hours of gathering on average for a single offhand tool and 6 hours for a chest piece. Most players can probably consider these items to be virtually un-craftable for all intents and purposes.

As a result, "endgame crafting" has been reduced to a weekly exercise of capping red scrips and maybe crafting the occasional 2* item if you're inspired enough to go through the favor item hunt. I doubt most players have the time to grind enough favor items for a complete set of gear, let alone gear for multiple classes or extra items to sell. I suppose they might remove the locks eventually, but by then the items would probably be obsolete.

Vanity sells like its heroin at a methadone clinic. A quick look over draconic potions shows either complete joke levels 42 gil or stuff that at the best costs more to make than the items are being sold separately.

Food at least is profitable but it doesn't seem to be selling more than 2 or 3 a day.. that's not hotcakes ot me.

    1. Gil farming is no issue for crafters
    2. You have the option to farm red scripts instead of gil to switch your spezialisations around if you fear the market board so much

Gil farming is no issue for people built to Gil farm. Its definately a barrier for people who want to get in.

My friend played more than me and he got all crafting classes on lvl 50 and got stuff melded. I managed to catch up to crafting lvl 50 before heavensward came out. 1 month beforeheavensward I didn't bother to get my crafting gear melded anymore.

So during heavensward I was excited for crafting. But my friend still had a huge advantage (which is good, since those people spend gil and time for that gear).
But I got demotivated once we hit lvl 60, because my friend was still way better in crafting. The specialization just helped a little bit.
So people like me, who even caught up with omni crafting are thinking: Is it even worth trying to catch up?

But if there are real specializations it'll be worth it and more motivating for people like me who want to catch up with crafting. And my friend is also happy, because he doesn't have to craft everything now
Most of the people that complain here seem to be old crafters but you guys don't think about the new people that want to start crafting.

IF they want to make SPecialization matter they need to first balance crafting so its worth it rather than putting up a few specialist recipes which being horribly unbalanced will clearly all be the same choice.

You keep in mind you can level all jobs in ffxi too. And one more thing also keep in mind that crafting and gathering are classes with levels on here their not skill level based RNG.
