Too many players think 30 minutes is longer than it actually is. The penalty isn't that bad, just eat it.

Right? If I get a truly hideously awful party and leave (it takes a lot, but I've done it a few times) I go dig for a map, hit ephemeral nodes, craft, or go watch some anime or something on youtube. 30 minutes is peanuts.

Lol, right? Going and gathering or crafting for awhile can be kinda therapeutic.

Aurum Vale, Dzemael Darkhold, Steps of Faith, Chrysalis, there's any number of duties people don't like to do and rather than suck it up and eat a 30 minute penalty, some people will ask you to waste your vote kick
You've made a massive assumption yourself assuming any of those instances had anything to do with OP feeling the need to post this very thread, but alas OP didn't give much context on what people wanted removed from and why, which kinda questions credibility. Being on the same data centre, I've never come across this in DF as the norm is to just leave or 'DC'.

    That's...a horrible idea.
Your internet craps out. You log back in to find you were votekicked, probably for being offline. Whatever, shit happens, suck it up and re-queue. But what's this? Now you have a 30min penalty as well?

    /rage

    /throw pc out the window

Seriously, some people that get votekicked would get no sympathy from me for having to also sit in the corner for 30min. But that is way too harsh for what...discouraging people from asking to be kicked? Honestly I don't see that as a big deal anyway, if they don't want to be in the group then see you later bud /kick

The game works best when everyone is having fun. If someone is feeling overwhelmed or hopeless in content, why attempt to force them to stay? If someone can't handle say, T9 (I know, but its an example), I'd rather they ask for kick. The fact they can then go run Dusk Vigil on another class affects me not at all.

Short answer and I'm saying this in the nicest way possible ok.

    Not My Problem

They came in of their own accord they can leave the same way and take a penalty then maybe they will think twice. Thire time isn't any more important as my time.

Because if even one person is kicked because they asked for it (by person I ofcorse mean a tank or a healer. Yes these 2) then the whole duty could just fall apart because these 2 are hard to get reped.

If their so stressed out that their on the verge of a panic attack then they just leave.

I'm not sure how my OP left out context or can lead to questioning my credibility. It's a topic that I felt the need to discuss so I made the post about it.

I clearly stated that I've noticed a trend that seems to be appearing more in both DF Dungeons and in PVP of players asking to be removed from the party via the Vote Kick feature.

These requests, as mentioned by others typically stem from an unwillingness to do the duty they ended up in and can range in reasons from:

    - they don't like the duty they got placed in
    - their GC is losing in pvp
    - cat's on fire, etc.

It's a blatant abuse of the Vote Kick function to try to circumvent the penalty and essential cherry pick a better dungeon or winning pvp match; the penalty timer is there for a reason.

My thoughts, while they might not be ideal, on how to prevent said cherry picking players is to assign a penalty time to the Vote Kick function as well. If you get vote kicked you potentially get the same timer that dropping the group gives. Maybe if something like this was put into place we'd stop seeing players request to be let out of dungeons or d/c to force a kick so they get into ones they like better.

Hell, some people get vote kicked for no reason at all, or they get vote kicked by accident because the Initiator chose the wrong person to vote kick. Or a tank almost gets vote kicked because he is waiting for the healer who said to give them a minute in the chat box and one of the DPS wasn't paying attention and decided to try vote kick the tank for "holding up the party." Sometimes people step away and don't have time to tell the party why because what they are dealing with IRL is more important than the instance and when they come back they try to apologize and in the middle of typing they are kicked.

Yeah, definitely not a fan of being kicked bringing in a penalty. I've been kicked for completely BS reasons before, and would not be happy if I got penalized on top of being removed from a duty wrongfully.

I suppose I don't understand your goal in requesting people not ask to be kicked. If kicking wasn't an option, people would go to the next best thing, force-disconnect. If that started coming with a penalty, there would be outcry every time a storm, a dog, an ISP or a SE server failing took down someones internet for a few minutes too long, and they were locked out on return.
It's to discourage leaving a duty mid way. Simple as that. Yes I want them punished because when they leave and I have to wait for a replacement, I'm not having fun anymore. If the penalty makes the quitter feel bad then it has filled it's purpose. Maybe the quitter will be more patient next time and will consider not wasting other people's time. Think about the wait the other group members have when they can't even do their open world business in the meantime.

Oh, what if you have to leave because it's a real life emergency? Well, the 30 minute penalty won't matter in that case so leaving the duty should still be the first response, not begging for a kick. Usually those "emergencies" are just bad excuses made by people who are so eager to requeue for another duty that they don't even bother pretending to dc. I may need my kick allowance in the next 4 hours so I'd rather not waste it on some selfish picky person who doesn't quite grasp what roulette means.

I would love if getting kicked gave the same penalty as leaving. In WoW I only got kicked a couple of times that I would consider unjust (in FFXIV not even once) and got penalized the 30 minutes, but I still think it was soooo worth it not having people dc left and right all the friggin time in that game. After playing FFXIV for about 5 months, I've wasted more total time waiting for a replacement for someone who went offline, than I ever did for getting kicked from groups in WoW during the 5 years I played! When the penalty for getting kicked first got implemented, there was an outcry. From the ragequitters, of course. It settled down pretty quickly and suddenly people seemed to have much better internet connections since not many disconnected anymore...

Anyone who tends to stick with the group and dungeon they got dealt would have nothing to worry about if SE implemented a penalty for quitting. The rest, I have no sympathy for. Except for those with connection issues. I guess they could use the time to resolve or wait out any issues with the dog / eye of a storm / server / idiot sibling, so they don't affect the next group they get into. Who knows, maybe groups wouldn't be so trigger happy to kick offline people if they knew for sure it was legit internet problems and not some pathetic attempt to get kicked on purpose to avoid a penalty.
