Bad habits are increasing in this game. I joined Leveling Roulette on my PLD for the xp. Informing the party that I want to pull everything for the xp, the WHM asked to be kicked, but he forced a d/c on himself the first DPS left.

Earlier, a BLM told me to get xp on my own time, and that he will kick me if I don't stop pulling every mob. Funny thing is, when I'm on DPS or Healer, we are waiting on a tank for 10+ minutes. But when some of us are trying to get xp, the groups don't like it? I don't understand this community.

There is EVERY reason to ask. Who is hurt by it? The group that has to open a menu and press a button? If no one wants to do it, the kick won't happen. Do you have some desire to see people punished in some way for leaving content? They could pull their net cable/turn off their wi-fi just as easy. No penalty there.

The game works best when everyone is having fun. If someone is feeling overwhelmed or hopeless in content, why attempt to force them to stay? If someone can't handle say, T9 (I know, but its an example), I'd rather they ask for kick. The fact they can then go run Dusk Vigil on another class affects me not at all.

I think the best way around the abuse that seems to stem from asking to be kicked via vote kick, or going afk to force a kick would be to add a penalty timer of 30 minutes to the players who get kicked.

I know this has a negative impact on the few players that might get kicked for no legitimate reason but something clearly needs to be done.

But WHY do you need a kick? Why can't you leave on your own?

If someone's ASKING you to kick them because they don't want to be in the party with you, it begs the question what on earth are you doing wrong?

Ok, explain this to me. Why does them having a penalty help things? What exact behavior are we trying to prevent? Is it just you want people punished for leaving duties?

I suppose I don't understand your goal in requesting people not ask to be kicked. If kicking wasn't an option, people would go to the next best thing, force-disconnect. If that started coming with a penalty, there would be outcry every time a storm, a dog, an ISP or a SE server failing took down someones internet for a few minutes too long, and they were locked out on return.

Kicking has a fairly long internal cooldown, I think 8 hours per player? If we use it on someone whose being stubborn and doesn't want to take the penalty for bailing (and honestly, if it's the case of performance, there's also vote abandon). Asking to be kicked because you don't want the penalty for leaving a party is a terrible excuse.

When people leave parties, it creates a problem for those that are left behind, espesically if it's a tank or healer. The penalty is there to discourage people from leaving incase they get a bad roulette or whatever. Because honestly, if people can be removed from the party without any sort of penalty, what's going to stop them from cherry picking and causing more problems for future party?

Uh, you're making a pretty huge assumption here. Most people don't ask to be kicked because of other people in the party. They ask to be kicked simply because they don't want to do the content that roulette lands them in. Aurum Vale, Dzemael Darkhold, Steps of Faith, Chrysalis; there's any number of duties people don't like to do and rather than suck it up and eat a 30 minute penalty, some people will ask you to waste your vote kick.

Sorry, if you really want out then eat your 30 minutes and be done with it. Otherwise, be ready to give 100% and not just sit there sulking in the corner like a damn 5 year old because the big dragon in SoF is too scary for you.

Them getting a penalty is the system working as intended. Roulette is a random pick of a list of duties, some of which people don't enjoy getting. It's intended to help newer players get through a lot of the duties required for the story and side story. It's not meant to be cherry picked, hence the 30 minute lockout. This is a way to play the system. They're using up someone's four-hour lockout on vote kick instead of eating a 30 minute penalty.

Going into Duty Finder for anything is signing a non-written agreement to stick around until the duty is over, one way or the other. The penalty for leaving exists to punish players for breaking that contract, because it impacts the other players in the party, and replacements are NOT guaranteed. Trying to weasel out of that penalty is a scumbag thing to do, especially considering it's a highly limited ability players have.

When I want to leave, I leave. I take my thirty minute penalty and craft or gather or whatever. I'm usually not in the mood to try DF again immediately after anyway, especially if something that happened in DF was bad enough to convince me to drop.
