If I want to play FFXI, I have an option to do so. I chose to play FFXIV instead and don't need to see a rehash of events, systems, etc. from that game ported into this one. I want FFXIV to become a world class, unique MMORPG, not a rehash of a game that is now 13 years old.

I saw a video on youtube where they talked about the new artifact weapon system. Seems pretty cool. I would love it if the new relic weapons had a system like that. Seems like something like that would be a good fit in this game.

And how would you like to see that done? People have made a suggestion - you haven't. Please provide something constructive.

How do you want to see characters growing and players progressing their characters two patches from now? In a year? In three?

Sorry but after seeing this tired argument of "this is FFXIV not FFXI go play that" - trust me I did. For a decade. I enjoyed it - it had things that I still enjoy and I've found things here I enjoy when I started playing 1.0 - and I've been here through all the changes - from the addition of Job crystals - to today.

I want to see the game grow and feel unique - people provide suggestions about systems they like; essentially your only contribution is "I don't like what you like go away" - which isn't contributing to the discussion of how character growth could be expanded upon or improved. So - got any ideas??

The Merit System can work if they let us increase the tier level of our ability then create new spell lines for the expansions.

The merit system in XI was a stopgap measure because the XI dev team did not want to raise the level cap. And they didn't for like 8 years.

Personally, I'd rather not add in merits or other attribute tweaks until XIV is at 99 cap 3-4 expansions from now and there will not be any more levels.

    OK, I'll be specific.

FFXI was all about sidegrading. The armoury system supported this, allowing gear changes mid fight. Merits was the same. Most of them were of very little value but provided for sideways diversification and a valuable "grind" mechanic for SE to hold subscribers.

FFXIV is different. Progression here is vertical, driven through each expansion by gear progression and between by level progression. Having played both styles now, I prefer the FFXIV design and would like future expansions to continue to follow that track.

So your suggestion for improvement is to not change? You're happy grinding out a single raid and a few dungeons every 3 months for essentially the same thing over and over and over? Will that really hold your interest for three more years?

You don't have anything more compelling to offer towards improvement of the progression system?

Just more of the same status quo? Just give you higher numbers with the same stats every patch without adding any depth to the combat system or game meta - keep on the same repetitive vertical treadmill every few months?

    What's the difference between lv60 i170 and lv60 i210 besides number bloat...?

I like the idea of a merit system.
    Please consider se.

Theres nothing wrong with taking any feature from any game whether it be wow, ffxi...rift...or the countless others out there if it adds a bit of depth the game. Many games have some excellent features..why not add them in here.

I guarantee you, FFXIV design will absolutely stagnant if more indepth designs and addition of many player choices are not added at one point.

That goes for every aspect, UI design and options, gearing, pvp, housing design really needs a major change, dungeon design, crafting...

What i have seen so far is most times SE thinks needless complexity = depth, but thats simply not the case.
I love ffxiv but never will be blinded to think that changes are not needed or beneficial to the game.

They don't have to lay out a counter design or idea, that's now how criticism works. Simply stating the dislike of an idea is just as valuable input to any developer as anything else. The "well let's see you do better" argument and attitude is completely terrible on the whole. People don't need to be game designers to tell you the kind of mechanics in a game they don't enjoy, just like film critics aren't movie directors, and you don't need to be a carpenter to be able to tell when a table or chair is sitting crooked.

Well I'm critical of non-constructive criticism; it is absolutely useless. Put your brain to work - take your head out of the box and think about how to improve something because nothing is perfect. Everything can be refined or expanded on. If people feel a dislike of a certain suggestion they should, at bare minimum, be able to provide some alternative or at least support their opinion and bring their own ideas to the table; the conversation isn't going to end just because you don't like something. We're not developers - we're consumers on this forum - and like you said we don't need to be a developer to have ideas or to know what we like as individuals, but if you can't be bothered to contribute to the actual conversation beyond "I don't like it" without offering alternatives or ideas then why bother commenting at all? If they like the current rigid vertical system - great but how would you like to see that improved or augmented? More raids, more dungeons? More crafted gear? Changes to the materia system? New forms of content? It's not hard.

If you don't like customization of gameplay and more diverse progression in the form of Merits or more diverse game stats - then what do you want? It is just pathetically dull to see the same weak placid response over and over. I for one am sick of hearing the same limited "go play FFXI" or "I don't like your idea (and I have nothing to contribute)" responses and the mindset attached to them - it's as if this forum is dominated by people with no sense of imagination or desire to see the game grow and change.
