Just my two cents from my experience today.

I qued for the Ultros fight. It was my first time as I'm just now catching up on the Hildy quests. Before I could type anything one of the tanks spat out "Which dps is new." I explained that I was but I had looked over a guide.

Part of the way through the fight one of the healers throws out this piece of gold "Lol noob you didn't read a guide"

Now maybe its me but reading doesn't mean I'm going to get it right the first try. Nor was I the only one being knocked out of the arena. There were no wipes, no deaths, no close calls. Until that point I'd thought it was an extremely smooth run. The only issue seemed to be that I was on SMN and new.

If you don't try to do your best every time, and learn how to optimize your effectiveness regardless of role, you are lazy and/or bad.

    End Discussion.

Don't make content that you can make a guide for. =P

World of Darkness is one of the best designed raids in the game. =)

Then a couple of attempts later, I wasn't even getting hit by anything at all.

Some people don't get that experience =/= being informed. And some don't seem to get that new people may very well become experts if given a chance.

    Eh, here goes:

In my opinion, the whole attitude to this kind of fail is what kills a lot of runs. Screaming 'advice' at someone in a very derogatory way is the fastest way to make someone ignore you and plow through like an idiot anyway because they don't wanna exit and wait 30 mins to join the queue again. My advice would be, from a newer player's point of view, tell them straight, tell them simply but don't be a....*whistles*

For anyone, like me, who is less experienced: learning to take criticism before you give it is a big one. No one likes to be wrong....however, chances are if you're new...dude, you're doing something wrong at some point lol. I'm varying rotations, asking advice from other players and watching guides to attempt to suck less lol.

I think attitude is a massive part of any class's performance. Keep an open mind on both sides and try not to be a **** to your fellow players. That's my take on the subject, DPS or otherwise.

So wait.. in your example, the tanks and healers were responding well to criticism? Like THAT would ever happen. xD

Thing is usually DPS just get blamed for everything, really. Starts to get boring after a while.

I wouldn't have said anything but these guys, it was 2 BLM's, a DRG and a NIN, they all had augmented ironworks/dreadwyrm, i was the lowest geared as a SCH (only il112)
Hold up, what? Were cannons used at all? When I did Steps a few days ago, Dragon Killers weren't used at all and he only made it up to the explosive barrels.

I main DPS for raiding or when doing stuff with static, I also run DF as tank or healer. And I'm also very patient. I'll do full clear if im asked like a human being and not demanded. I'l give advice and take time running new players through content, but if someone starts being disrespectful to the detriment of the party, I'll tell them, whether thats in their attitude towards others or they method of playing is preventing progression even after being given advice and getting ignored. If they don't change, i'll talk in the party about removing them. If they party doesn't and it doesn't change, then i'll remove myself from the party and do something else.

After jumping in DF coil to help out and seeing it fail terribly, most of the time it has been the DPS blaming everyone else even tho it was that DPS raging who messed up the most. Whereas more often than not, if the tanks or healers make mistake, they admit to it. Ego blinds people to the truth of their own mistakes. Not saying it ONLY applies to DPS, but from experience the scales fall higher to wards those kind of players who picked a DPS job.

It's great watching a new player improve visibly through a DF dungeon after giving helpful advice. It isn't when someone messes up, doesn't take advice and continues to mess up becuase they are blind to their own mistakes. We all make mistakes, the good people are those who can recognize they do so.

This. The tank and healer can be super bad and the DPS are the ones who are kicked.
