I'd like to apologize for the tanks who did that to you. I actually had a few similar experiences when I first started playing (I started as a dps) myself, so I know the feeling, and tanks who do that still frustrate me. You can even look at my post history and you'll see that I made a thread a while back where I really gave hell to a group who kicked a newbie out of Praetorium because he got lost for a moment. I absolutely cannot stand when people do things like that to new people. I know I was tempted to give up and quit the game after the bad experiences as a new person. I'm sure the thought has crossed the minds of other new people as well.
I am not naive enough to believe that the way we are treated by the community does not have an effect on our attitudes towards it in general. Going in with a bad attitude towards people as individuals from the beginning is not the answer though, this situation was a prime example of that.
Silent skepticism on his part would have been preferable to immediately being verbally abusive and abusive gameplaywise towards me though. Asking nicely for what he wanted would have been even better, he would have found me very agreeable. As humans, we have the ability of self control. We also have a tendency to react badly to a lack of respect. Losing your self control towards an individual before even being shown any disrespect by that individual is inexcusable behavior.
I know I am skeptical but civil with people in each dungeon I'm in at first. I let them have time to give me either a good impression or a bad impression before I make the call on how they are going to act though, and even if they are going to act like children, I still try to be civil (as I did here by offering them a reasonable compromise and refusing to make demands of them or coerce them with griefing tactics even though they continued to demand of me and grief me). The DPS in this situation barely gave the cut scene/loading screen time to end before he made his intent known, however.

I'm too optimistic to hope for otherwise I guess.
