    Crafting
The concept of FFXIV's armoury system is so you can be and do everything with just one character. Along the way, crafting became a little too hardcore. First, it started requiring everything to be HQ or bust. Then you it started requiring you to max-meld every piece of gear, and eventually you needed to do it for all jobs. What started as 'can be anything' twisted into 'must do everything'. While it may have been enjoyable for the really hardcore who enjoy this kind of gameplay, it pushs away the people who just want to do a simple bit of crafting now and then. With the Meister and scripts system, we're trying to get back to our core philosophy.
Same problem with Gathering, everyone ended up gathering the same thing, creating an oversupply thus making it difficult to create useful craftables for battle. In order to give more meaning to craftable gear/items and implment the next materia system, we need to control the supply of items and create differentiation between each gatherer.
It's probably terrible balance-wise to have dungeon drops always be the strongest so we're trying to change that.
With the new system, once you're at 60, you can then become an apprentise to each respective guilds' guildmaster. You'll gain new skills and recipes by becoming a meister/specialist. You can have more than one trademeister but there'll be a delay before you're allowed to switch.
The new crafter scripts, temporarily called red and blue chips. You collect them by polishing up and raising the quality, in terms other than NQ/HQ, of some items.
For gatherers, each region will have something like folktales, their own lores and stories. You won't be able to see the new nodes unless you've already heard of these tales. These are were scripts will come in. Besides that there are also talismans that you can use to reveal these nodes.
Not sure if everyone saw this already.

Mmmhm, and do you want to be like an alchemist and sit in the corner crying because of one bad decision you might've made? Or do you want to be able to be able to switch to something that's more profitable?
That's my whole point against the idea of specialization, at least as it stands right now, if you run into an issue with a market you can't compete against (bad selection of things you can make, monopoly by somebody who undercuts so severely, etc.) you can move over to another section of the market rather easily, just spend a couple million on supra and lucis, and you're almost 4 star ready.

Besides, I understand that you can still hq with nq mats rather easily, but that's not really the point. My point is, it sells on the MB for the added premium. I believe sometimes as an insurance policy, and sometimes simply to save time. Either way, I make everything I need so I don't know the exact reason for people buying things as such, but that's not my business. I just make the sales as long as there's the demand.

The new system they're describing sounds nasty.. some time before you are allowed to "switch" I assume that'll be like the GC switch and you won't be able to be a meister in multiple classes at the same time..

Well, time to get cracking on my alts..

Somebody who's not into crafting simply won't be a crafter no matter how easy or hard you make it. Also, somebody who's into crafting will do what it takes, good thing I've been saving my money.. at least I'm ready for the initial rat race i suppose.

Looks like it won't be a problem anymore as you can switch specialization.

With a time limit imposed on it, and suggesting you cant be more then one specialist at the same time. If anything, it looks it will be a problem.

I better get those alts made so I can start saving up leves.

so everyone is gonna specialize in gsm right since that is gonna be a massive gil maker.. or wvr ltw and to a degree arm..

ill just stop crafting if they make it so I cant make everything.. the fun in crafting for me is knowing I can do it all, take that away and it looses a lot of appeal.

this just sounds like a gate to stop the richest characters getting richer, or as in lucis having all the new tools in 1 day.

we should be free to play any crafting gathering class and be able to do all the recipes and nodes... no restrictions, because thats what all the crafters and gatherer's have been working on for the last year and a bit.

I like the idea of doing missions to unlock new recipes and even doing specialist things but we should be able to do them all without a restriction is all im saying.

Pretty much all I do in this game is craft. It has one of the most enjoyable crafting systems in any mmo I've played and it's very disheartening to see these restrictions put in place. I hope they reconsider, or I might have to find another game to play

The goal would be make people co-operate with each other, and join a real FC with other players (and not a FC with just himself and his alts, to take advantage of the chest and be able to pass things from one alt to another.) Maybe I am completetly mistaken, though.
Of all the speculations I have read in this thread, this sounds most plausible. I'm not so sure about the finer details you speculated on (like the restriction being level-based), but I think you are on to something with the big picture idea that the main point is to require more than one person to craft a FC airship.

In that case, I wouldn't be surprised if some of the airship items are below level 50 so casual crafters can make them, but some kind of restriction (similar to gloves for Ixali) prevents one person from making all of them. Restrictions like this wouldn't stop a guy with a FC full of alts from doing it, but quite frankly, nothing can stop that person short of restricting everyone to one character (which will not happen).

They really try to destroy crafting? I mean haven't they learned anything from other mmos that ppl will just use alts and abuse this new system? Sorry but they did NOT think this out at all.

How is this better for the economy if all its doing is making the supply nonexistent with certain crafts and make the ppl with Alts even more rich boggles my mind...
