We will be getting DX11 in 3.0, it will make thing look a bit better.
But this is a cross-platform game, have to keep the hardware of other platforms in mind still.

I play on PS4 but I strongly agree with OP.
Hello everyone, I'm going to make this short and to the point.
I think this game would gain a tremendous amount of visual fidelity if we had some decent textures.
This is 2014 where many video cards have well over 1GB of VRAM, such small textures stick out like a sore thumb and mar the games beauty.
Like this post if you support HD textures!
I support everything pretty, and Square Enix most certainly has a taste of the flamboyant when it comes to graphics output. However, that mindset has been the absolute bane of Square Enix for like, the last generation or so. In fact, it was one of the things the ARR developers went into when asked what went wrong in XIV 1.0. Lets not even mention the terrible failure that was Crystal Tools, and the Luminous Engine, for which is (likely) directly responsible for Final Fantasy XV having a development time that has exceeded the lifespan of the console it was planned for. Oh yeah, and XIV 1.0 being a trainwreck.
So, with knocking "purtty graphicks" down the priority list being an actual design focus for ARR, and ARR also being the only FF game that has gotten universal acclaim and success since Final Fantasy XII, i'd like for them to just keep down the path they're going. Moving backwards to HD the textures and add miqo'te butts just isnt worth sacrificing the forward movement they've already been making with this game.

/sign HD on PS4 wins, leave ps3 in the pass where it belongs
I want my 1.0 graphics in my 2.0 game so count me in.
Is there a good place to check out a comparison between 1.0 and 2.0 graphics?
I didn't really see an easy 1 v 2 but I can say personally that the animations seemed to be more grounded (loved that movement animation) and a number of textures were at a higher detail that while at a distance may not be super noticeable were noticeable up close (///a lot/// of FFXIV 2.0 gear has pixels all over the place when viewed up close, very few did in 1.0). Yoshida has said something along the lines that high res textures don't mean much now days, still disagree greatly and I'm in love with my high res Skyrim mods (My mod's list theme is "Can we 4K that?", of course I have tons of lighting and enb mods too). Although I understand that it takes a lot of time to redo graphics; however, 1.0 players are saying "we know these existed, still have them right? Give them back!" lol. There are some dev posts saying DX11 won't come with higher resolution textures and then one of the more recent posts I believe said something about some high resolution textures, but I'm trying to find it so give me a sec**.
Also bump maps were awesome in 1.0 and that added a perceived 3d effect, though with dx11 we will get some tessellation (still need some better bump maps, but tessellation will make somethings literally 3d). This is probably to do with a shift in art design, shaders, and lighting but I felt a lot of 1.0 had richer colors, as I'm not an artist all I can say is that it felt soothing - 2.0 does not look bad imo, but the visual aesthetic of 1.0 was more... believable? Although SE has constantly updated the weathers (lighting in weathers) and a number of weathers in game now have a bit of saturation I missed. Some weathers were available early release but I've noticed a few others introduced later, or transitions between two that felt good - so I think that is non-issue, more visual color palette variety now; I think I just like dark/rich colors in general lol.

Watching that video made me miss Coerthas again! A snow region is neat, but.. Coerthas green or riot :P. Also miss some of those smooth zone songs, bring those back too XD (use both new and old, they're both good).
**Edit: A-ha! Here it is. They will use uncompressed textures (better than compressed, lol) on characters, quality on objects to increase (some at least), and skin texture.
The depiction of rugged surfaces has been vastly improved. The Ul'dahn terrain seen in this slide shows a significant difference despite using the same amount of resources. The difference is quite remarkable in dungeons as well. In addition, players will find that DirectX 11 will be less resource-intensive for GPUs that support it. In some cases this will also result in an improved frame rate.
Furthermore, with the DirectX 11 version, characters will be rendered with uncompressed textures, making them look even more impressive. The visual quality of objects in the background has also improved, and even the texture of characters’ skin will look more realistic.

I'm in.
sick & tired of those horrible pixelated textures on the clothes.
I wouldn't mind some higher quality normal mapping. The high poly models do exist, or at least existed at some point. Oh, and better lighting. Damn i wish we had that.
Edit: Cleared a misunderstanding

It would not be difficult IF they have the high-res "source" textures lying around. If they don't ... ya, it's not happening. They aren't going to re-texture the whole game.
Load time could be an issue though - but it probably can be solved with a streaming system of some sort.
Err ... I'm quite sure we have normal mapping. We seem to have the standard set of "mappings", diffused, specular, gloss and normal.
