If you don't like it, then turn it off. And calling the developers "lazy" for adding a graphical enhancement that I get the impression that you really don't quite understand is not going to charm them into doing what you ask.

They don't look any worse to me. Comparison:

    Parallax Occlusion: High vs. Normal

The parallax occlusion just made the problem more visible. The textures have too low res. I hope they drop PS3 soon and work on this. I know that they can already do this for the PC but chances are they won't. Like other multi platform games they want a similar visual experience across the platforms.

Question - would ps4 users benefit from this too? If so, I absolutely want it.

This should still be an option. Seriously, let's see some of those 1.0 textures!! I miss the hair quality most of all..

It would depend, does the PS4 have enough expendable memory? It shares the same RAM between everything and else, and the GPU as there is no dedicated VRAM, and that may cause issues. IIRC, the PS4 operating system uses 3GB of RAM, which leaves 5GB for the game, in theory it should be able to support might higher resolution textures (game uses 1.5GB at most from my tests), but I'm no expert. Perhaps someone with more knowledge could weigh in?

Old post, but... Parallax occlusion looks (mostly) fine on flat surfaces, the laziness comes from how it appears on mountain sides, cliffs, anything bumpy really. A few regions of Ishgard are quite mountainous, so it's very apparent. If they were unable to find a solution to the issue, then they should have disabled it on such occasions, or allowed the option to disable it on mountains and the like. I just went to take a screenshot (again), but it appears it has now been fixed by reducing the amount of the effect used, so yay it's fixed (or I'm looking at the wrong mountains). The textures aren't exactly anything to marvel at though.

thats changed recently PS4's newest update allows creators to utilise 7 of the 8 GB's of ram meaning now the ps4 suddenly can use 2 more gigs for more details. the last gig is used for the os but even then that only uses half of the gig in application memory

    That's not how it works.

Everytime Microsoft realse a new version of DX they also decide to chnage the way drivers work to be better, hence why you always seem to need a new driver type. They also work at how the mvideo card works under the hood too. This will give performance improvements for anything.

The only thing that will support DX art the moment will be the actual Windows desktop. That in turn will give the whole PC a little extra performance.

Direct X is basically a way for a game to work on any graphics card independent of the manufacturer. back in the old days games had to talk directly to the graphics card. Even today some games still do a little talking direct to the graphics driver to take advantage of some features and squeeze a little extra performance.

If a game uses direct x 9 then it will do things in a different way than direct x 12. You said that DX12 has more support to offload things to the GPU so any game written for DX12 will have support for that but since a DX9 game will have no knowledge of this then it will do it whatever way you did before.

One thing to note about offloading stuff to the GPU. If you have a laptop for instance and a game/application runs slowly you likely have a low power CPU and a low power GPU so if they are both under full load then unloading tasks to an already overloaded GPU isn't going to speed up anything.

I Honestly play with parallax disabled, it looks horrible on stone textures and terrain. Everything gets weirded our thanks to those 512 textures.

Really, i know SE doesn`t want to give "a diferent experience" between their platforms, but they already do, we PC users already can use filters like reshade to pretty out the colors and sharpness of the game, PC users also are the only ables to get truly maxed out settings and real 60 fps. PS4 quality is far superior to the PS3 which is a BIG quality and experience diferente.

Also, no reason to understimate PS4 graphic capabilities, i think PS4 can perfectly handle a high resolution texture pack. And for PC is a must, sometimes the close ups on cutscenes and all, remind me of PS2 xD

Idk why doesn't just let a third party handle the textures and stuff.
