    Everybody talking about scaling Cure off of VIT is still missing the fact that most of the contribution to Cure potency is off of the Magic Damage stat on the weapon. Have your WHM equip Bloodcry and see how useful their Cure is at 50. Trust me, it's not going to be impressive, and that's what a PLD would put out if they had the Dreadwyrm Blade, even if Cure scaled off of VIT for PLD.

    * The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.

The reason PLD lost it's healing abilities in ARR is probably due to the fact that SE added SCH as a healer (which didn't exist in 1.0), thus freeing PLD of that responsibility and allowing them to concentrate on tanking. In 1.0 there was just CNJ/WHM in the healer role, so PLD was made into a hybrid pseudo-healer/tank simply out of desperation.

    And as Duelle said PLD are not holy knights, but members of the Sultansworn Elite, the royal guards of Ul'dah. Also considering holy as an element really doesn't even exist in FFXIV (okay, there is the 'astral' alignment, but that's not really an actual element in the true sense), it's kind of moot to even call them 'holy knights' (as someone else mentioned, PLD is actually simply called 'Knight' in the Japanese client).

    Having said that, I'm certain SE is keeping missing abilities and spells from version 1.0 in reserve for future level cap increases, so who knows what might happen once Heavensward is released and level 60 is reached (and levels beyond) - PLD just may get back it's healing abilities after all, anything is possible really.

    This has me wodnering if Paladins weren't meant to have healing capabilities then why does CNJ have to be the subjob? Why not MAU, or ROG or even LAN?

    We do NOT have "Paladins" under the MMO definition in this game. We have Knights, or royal guards who protect guard the Sultana.
    In most MMO's a "Paladin" in lore is a person who belongs to a church/religion, and who's very existence is to purge the darkness in the world.
    XI - Paladin belongs to the church in San'd O.., and is given strength to fight un-dead.
    WoW - Paladin belongs to the church again, and is fighting against the un-dead.
    Both are blessed, have magic, use "holy" arts, healing ability, heavy armor/shields, playing a PLD in both games gave a very unique identity.

    XIV - we have a knight who might as well have been a squire under a PLD, learned a skill or 2 and became a sell sword.

    And BLM/SMN have higher magic damage than PLD (obviously) so their heal will naturally be higher.
