More useful white magic of any sort would be welcome. I started out as a paladin but was a little disappointed that the job ends up feeling more like a royal guard than a paladin.

    Edit:

In most MMO's a "Paladin" in lore is a person who belongs to a church/religion, and who's very existence is to purge the darkness in the world.
XI - Paladin belongs to the church in San'd O.., and is given strength to fight un-dead.
WoW - Paladin belongs to the church again, and is fighting against the un-dead.
Both are blessed, have magic, use "holy" arts, healing ability, heavy armor/shields, playing a PLD in both games gave a very unique identity.

XIV - we have a knight who might as well have been a squire under a PLD, learned a skill or 2 and became a sell sword.
Read this post after I had already posted. You hit the nail on the head I really don't like the lore behind the job either. I play WHM now but would have liked a more holy paladin.

    1.) Radiance
-Recovers the target health. Healing Potency: 300 Addition Effect: Enmity Regen (On Caster)
-Gradually Increases Enmity overtime / Duration: 8 Seconds
-Decent MP Cost (Comparable to Cure II)
    -Recast: 15 Seconds
    -Attribute Focus: VIT

    2.) Radiance II
-Recovers the target health. Healing Potency: 600 Addition Effect: Enmity Regen (On Caster)
-Gradually Increases Enmity overtime / Duration: 16 Seconds
-High MP Cost (Comparable to Adloquium)
    -Recast: 15 Seconds
    -Attribute Focus: VIT

The "Enmity Regen" mechanic is the same as what regen does when healing overtime but without the healing overtime effect. The reason for the enmity regen, high MP cost, and decent recast time is to prevent them from main healing. While providing a new tool for tanking, or as a backup heal.
Interesting, but PLD don't really need their own cures. They just need the Cross class cure from WHM to be more potent @ 60. Obviously not *as* potent as WHM, but more potent. Right now they can only heal for some 3% ish of their HP (depending on gear).

Sorry, I've not really done much tanking so I gave up on reading most of this thread.

I just wanted to say that new players get very confused by the level 10ish (i don't remember, I did this on alts a year+ ago, it might've even been less than level 10) skill that improves healing effects. They start in Uldah where there are no healers, there's no healing spells in their higher abilities and they probably have not yet run to Grid to unlock CNJ so the skill is useless until they do that or get level 15 to fly there. Even then they may not understand the concepts of cross classing yet. In general, I think introducing that skill so early is a very bad idea which is neither useful (as this stage of the game at least) nor does it make sense to directly try to cause confusion like that. I don't think any other class has a skill that relies so heavily and exclusively on cross classed abilities, let alone so early that you won't have access to them.

Impossible, Cross-class skills cann't have different potency based on job. The classes have TRAITS which augment the skills, but are exclusive to each class.

The Solution: Cross class trates or give them an enmity-based "and Mend" trait

I might be wrong here, but while doing the Paladin questline, I have never seen them talk about the Paladin being a holy warrior. They are knights who made a oath towards the sultana. In most mmorpg´s, the Paladin are knights who use sword and holy/light based magic, but in FFXIV they are not holy warrior.

So in a way, it makes sense that we do not have any Paladin healing spells.

Aegis Boon, Holy Succor and Divine Veil/Regen would be great abilities to have back. People saying them having heals wouldn't make sense because of their lore as Sultanate knights also forget they have an ability called Rage of Halone, named after a deity mainly worshiped by Ishgard and not really related to Uldah. If anything them having heals would make sense because Uldah's main deity is Nald'Thal and that deity's aspects are life and death, curing is all about giving life so there you go.

Just want to point out that Paladin was also called "Knight" in the Japanese version of XI. Paladin <-> ナイト isn't exclusive to 14.

All the gladiator NPCs have some serious cures in instances. Even sastasha, there are GLDs that cure for more than you can dish out if you don't focus them.

    Keyword: mainly.

From what I've seen even those who focus their prayers on one deity still respect all twelve, they don't turn monotheist or call the other false gods, I don't see how a skill named after one of the twelve doesn't make sense.

But lore apart, it wont happen just because of game balance, healer classes provide enough heals.
