1, 2 seem more like a bonus for supporting the game/buying merchandise.Someone please explain to me what meaningful difference can be said to exist between any of the following for purposes of "S-E is selling purely cosmetic stuff to make money and that is bad because of Reasons":
1.) Adding an ingame minion code to a $50 soundtrack.
2.) Giving the moogle costume to people who spend $20 on the Fanfest premium stream.
3.) Straight-up selling a minion for $5.
3 seems like a blatant cash grab.
That's just me though.
Except it's in the game, and their, waiting for the players to come get them. The only thing stopping them at the moment really is their own ability to kill the primals or the drop rate, which is actually being improved in 2.4.
Comparing a cash shop mount, not just any mount, freakin' Slepnir, to drops from EX Primals. Blimey.
Going to an online shop and clicking a "buy" button is not content, do not equate the two.
There should not be cash shop exclusive items. Please indicate anywhere in this thread where I have said I am against anything but exclusives and the risk of potential content becoming an exclusive item.
If Extreme mounts were to become a cash shop item whilst also being available their current way I would have no issue.
Please stop trying to slander me as someone who wants to lord the fact that I can beat content over others, I am not.
Man it seems like 10% of the forum playerbase is one patch away from quitting. Jeez you guys its just a game. I mean I can understand how you feel like you have to get this minions and these mounts but, here is the single most important thing ever to be learned from these forums.
IN ANY MMO ONE PLAYER RARELY DOES/GETS EVERYTHING.
I dont have the bluebird minion. I think it's overpriced. So guess what I did. I made a forum post griping about it.
Just kidding, I ignored it and did content I had fun with.

For the people saying that they would rather things be on the shop and also in the game is straight up lying. I bet if SE said "hey EX mounts can be bought" people would be crying about that and how it isn't fair and that it's throwing down money for something that people should get by just playing the game. Furthermore, the mount (which seems to be the big problem here) is a one time purchase. IF you have so little funds that you can only pay for the sub, then save up and get the mount after it comes out. No big deal.

Only thing stopping people for Slepnir is the ability to get over a trip to Burger King for an exclusive mount.Except it's in the game, and their, waiting for the players to come get them. I don't understand. I already bought the game, and am paying a monthly fee. They seriously expect me to pay for the expansion? I'm entitled to everything in the game because I've already bought it and pay a monthly fee!!!111!!!
I'm all for a cash shop. If they keep it vanity only, it'll be fine. WoW has a vanity cash shop, and its been running for 4 years. Hell, the game still has hundreds of mounts available in game, and only a handful available in the shop. The same goes for pets. It hasn't changed anything, except give people with disposable income something to spend it on.
You know, if they made Sleipnir a rare drop from an eventual instanced Odin fight available to anyone and not just for fanfest it would be somewhat ok, but then it would P2W anyway, pay 2 win RNG if you will. Same with any item they make both obtainable through gameplay and available on the cash shop, just like most a lot of GW2's stuff is pay 2 avoid grinding. Like some have said the foundation was there since day one with minions and mounts and eventually rare mats from maps for craftable items, they just now decided to pull all stops on that. It always seemed like an emergency F2P backup plan, guess there must be an emergency.
That's the thing, though. I cannot understand why 3 is seen as different than 1 and 2 in that respect, and your response is basically "it just is".
con·tent
ˈkäntent/
noun
noun: content; plural noun: contents
1. the things that are held or included in something.
(taken from the first result in google by searching "content definition.")
search engines is your friend. these items are included in the games data, and so by definition: they are "content" despite the fact they are barred by requiring money to experience.
though i don't see the point of this entire thread. if it was a philosophical debate about the practicality of cash shops from a business standpoint, it would be different. but this is the internet, not a college business course.
and yes, this is a shameless cash grab. but no, i don't see anything wrong with it as long as it doesn't turn into a giant coin-operated "i win" button.
Are you okay with them taking things that were already planned to be in the game and cutting it out to be put in the cash shop, like with Slepnir? It's obvious at this point Slepnir was going to be a rare mount drop from Odin extreme when it's released. Cut out and put into the cash shop from greed.I don't understand. I already bought the game, and am paying a monthly fee. They seriously expect me to pay for the expansion?
