Before 1.18 I actually had to pay attention to HP and how often I could cast and manage my resources. I was casting non-stop! Cure, Nuke, DOT, Debuff, Siphon TP, Levinbolt/Flashfreeze - I was actually "playing." Not waiting around and watching like a hawk to make sure no one dies (that was cool in XI, but it's not XI anymore).

I don't enjoy just focusing on healing, or standing around refilling my MP while others heal for me.
I am not saying it didn't need a balance, but this is not really what I wanted.

I'm honestly considering playing a job I like(d) less than Conjurer or simply not playing XIV at all until I see if Job System makes it better - and I for one have not yet quit XIV out of discouraging patches or disappointed with features. I've been trucking along enjoying myself on all classes.
