    Why?

Do people literally only play the game to get the gear that drops from the highest level, most difficult, most challenging dungeons of the game? Is that the only reason you're playing? To get gear from the RNG? You don't enjoy actually running the dungeons themselves, you don't enjoy any of the other content, the sole reason you play this game is just so that you can get the best possible gear and then stop?

Why should so much of the game be built around catering to that?

Allowing crafting to be on par with tome gear (after that crafted gear is minor-melded, not fully forbidden on every piece), and dropping tome gear below raid gear progression-wise would actually provide a tiny bit of horizontal progression. Some people are gonna buy the stuff, but lets face it, people buy runs through things too.. and I'd bet that the same amount of work, possibly more with the exception of RMT, goes into getting enough money to buy expensive stuff than to get enough tomes via dungeon grinding. You're still gonna have plenty of people picking tome gear instead of crafted for their stepping stone. Let's not pretend it's forcing players into anything.

Which would allow you to sell on volume instead of making bank on a single item once in a while.
By this logic, players wanting high level equipment could have also boycotted that equipment, which would drive the prices of that equipment down very quickly, and cause crafters to not want to bother buying philo materials to make them any more. Then the people selling philo materials would lower the prices because crafters would no longer be buying them.

You seem to have this unrealistic expectation that it's the crafter's job to collectively control what prices are, but that is just not how the market works at all. For tome sellers, other tome sellers are their competition, and for players buying high level equipment, other people buying high level equipment is their competition. The same goes for crafters. You aren't going to see some mass collusion going on between every crafter on the server any more than you'd see it with any other group, because if anyone did try to start something like that, the rest of the crafters would just pass them by. What you're suggesting would just never, ever realistically happen in a free market with so many competing individuals.

This is something I have experienced with many players. When Twin dropped ilvl90 the motivation was world first/server first. So you got very few group doing everything they could to secure it. After that the motivation died so twin got switched to drop ilvl95. As I explained before I have both witnessed and experienced this issue. I had to replace 3 tanks, 1 SMN, and 2 SCH because they did not even want to try Twin.

Progression is a big part of FFXIV, it is why players whom only log in once a week still plays this game, awaiting the next big challenge accompanied by equivalent reward.

    P.S.

After the switch to ilvl95 , each player that I was forced to replace reached out to try to rejoin the group. Unfortunately for them, I was not about to replace a player who tried and killed her with us with someone who did not even want to try, regardless if they were better players or not.

It's not just that crafted gear is inferior to the highest tier of non-crafted gear by a huge margin, it's that ALL the endgame crafted gear has dropped gear that is almost exactly identical in stats and also doesn't cost gil.

A lot of these replies just make me roll my eyes, especially from certain people. Let's ignore the fact that selling dungeon runs/clears/carries is fundamentally the same as selling the gear itself on the marketboards.

Crafting can have a place at endgame, at the same ilvl as the best dungeon gear. However, it needs to take longer to get the materials and require players to have completed the content or a variety of content to get the full potential of said crafted gear.

You only enjoy being able to craft the highest iLv item? You don't craft for the pure enjoyment of it?

Pass, I hate in other games how crafters get rich from selling end gear.
