I don't think my computer could handle it, but I know that if my computer could, I'd want the option - and it's not like I never plan to upgrade my PC. I hope that, one way or another, the developers are able to find a way to make the low resolution textures [much?] less apparent.
While better lighting and a slightly different rendering engine can make the game look better overall, there aren't too many ways to deal with texture aliasing as effectively as making higher resolution textures. I suppose some better texture filtering techniques might make a substantial difference, but typically if something is strong enough to make jagged lines disappear it also makes details disappear.I don't think my computer could handle it, but I know that if my computer could, I'd want the option - and it's not like I never plan to upgrade my PC. While I'm definitely looking forward to the enhancements that they have planned and I'm not bothered by the current textures most of the time, having no high resolution textures is an odd move. It's one of the few things they did right in 1.0. I am hoping we get the ambient occlusion 1.0 had at least, if not some texture enhancements (at least on characters). It's very jarring that SE seems to have designed a few story line cut scenes specifically to show off low resolution textures.
The aliasing on the textures is so awful lol. While better lighting and a slightly different rendering engine can make the game look better overall, there aren't too many ways to deal with texture aliasing as effectively as making higher resolution textures. Another day gone by and this popular requested feature get ignored. Apparently the community reps only care about questions regarding localization.
Maybe we should all take a page from Yoshida and zoom out more to forget about the embarassingly low textures for a game made in 2013.
Probably going to need 1000 or more likes to get it taken seriously. Truth is I think yoshiP is right and most of their target audience don't care about textures sadly. :/
Hopefully not, but if others let their friends know about this post, maybe we can get a ton of likes!
Sometimes I have to play on my laptop which is 3 years old, and it can still handle the game on maximum settings, so you should probably think about upgrading your PC.
But of course higher resolution texture pack would be an option, for those who can and want to have them.
Would be nice to have the option. Would be meaning unless you can give us a REALLY good reason not to, damn well do it, as pretty as the game looks in general there are some bits like the aforementioned weapons that look terrible. As a stopgap, perhaps you could at least boos the textures of the obvious ones, it should not take as much effort.
Those who cannot use it would not. The option could simply be a tickbox for the download for the space-problem potential. Though the game only takes up about 10 gig at the moment it could be pretty frigging huge after an expansion or two with high res textures.
I'm up in the air for those suggesting Tessallation though. I've not actually played many games using it, but TSW took an insane hit with it on and it only really looked good on Ground only (Where it actually did make the floor look great). This is on an 660Tix2 SLI setup.
edit:
Oh for the textures or effects argument: try playing an old game with boosted texture packs like Deus Ex or something. They're pretty equal, textures can always look better, but poor effects can feel strange on top. The effects are however, imo, pretty much perfect for now and would nto look wierd over better textures at all. especially considering most of them are lightshows blinding you :P
And for the hell of it, here is Valve screwing up their own high res texture pack (Half life 1s official higher res texture pack. I think it came with Blue Shift?), we don't want this either lol:![]()
