No other mmo to my knowledge requires you to keep a low level character around just so that you feel there is some danger left in the world.

There you go removed the apparently offending comment from the OP so it can no longer detract from the real point of the threads creation. Apologies if you interpreted it as such, but I'm certain if you read the ongoing posts through out the rest of the discussion you'd see that wasn't the case.
