There are other ways to replenish both of those things that do not come from a BRD.

But lets be clear here - no one is arguing whether or not songs add utility to a run. I'm saying it is within the realm of possibility to do it without them.

We might qualify this a bit and say something like....at a certain gear and/or skill level your mages will blow through their mp and you wouldn't be able to continue without ballad. Though, even then, I suspect you'd have bigger issues with your run if having ballad up was make or break for you.

But this is one reason people stack BRDs. It is a strategy that works. Have them stack and/or rotate songs and it makes life easier...you can suck a little bit more.

But do not mistake that for being a requirement. That's just one way to get around a particular gear and/or skill hurdle.
