I would be in favor of a yell feature I think. It would probably get people out of heavily populated cities (Like Ul'dah if it remains the same in ARR as a central hub.) since they can still talk with others clear across the realm. But my only concern is the easy and evident abuse it can bring. While it's easy to chat with others using this method it also opens up completely pointless conversations nobody actually wants to see which could be taken elsewhere. Using Kyri's example I've gotten into TERA recently during the current downtime. On my server's global chat I continue to see conversations about often perverse stuff or discussions that could easily be taken between two people or a private channel.

So trying to keep the channel/linkshell available and moderated could be quite a chore. I think Yoshi-P mentioned already having plans to create some kind of system like this so maybe we'll see it. If not a global then hopefully a regional-type chat channel. Limsa Lominsa would cover all of Vylbrand and the city, Gridania would cover the entire shroud, dungeons, and its city, Ul'dah all parts of Thanalan, its dungeons, Coerthas would have the outlying area and Ishgard, and so on. They did this for Jeuno in FFXI where there was a yell command linking all the parts of the city so we may see something like that again.

I know what you are talking about though, every time I've called a GM or heard someone call a GM they always get the "we will look into it" automatical email response. Which means -nothing is going to happen trololololo-. GMs do more on the forums.. lol
Lawl, that happened to me many times

There does need to be an option for reporting, like right-clicking a player's character to report. Of course there will be people who abuse that option.

It's also used to set up "pre-made" battleground and dungeon groups, instead of relying on randoms from the cross realm dungeon/raid/PVP finder.
So, basically, to target spontaneous people? I guess that works, but if you ask me, the usefulness is rather limited in this case. I'm someone who prefers to use the "passive" systems though.

And it also has invaluable use for people who don't know what to do in a game, because they can just ask zone/global chat about something, and get an answer right away, instead of having to dig through fansite guides or wait on forum posts.
    That's a good point.

Let me ask you this, why are you so against a feature that is optional?
I'm merely presenting counterarguments. A feature being optional doesn't mean there are no cons to it.

That's what usually happens though lol. I can't count how many times I saw people having a one-on-one chat over global chat, only to get told to "get a room" by someone and trigger an endless bickering, still in global chat :P

As for expecting... people often expect you to use a lot of optional things... even though they're optional. I admit in this case it's less likely to happen though.

Even with the /shout system 1.0 had people still engage in said 'one-on-one' conversations with each other. It's really an inevitable aspect you can't avoid. Although with that server/region wide chat, the audience of people contributing to the 'flames of conflict' will increase and sustain longer, but hey your shout log is more ideal to leave on then.

/yell (Can shout in many zones at once if there linked if your standing in 1 of those zones and can only use this like every 3-5mins)

    Just thought of this idea...

There should be some key words that will flag GMs to check you out and see if your RMT.

    Gil.Money,$,Cash,Sell,Buy, URL links, /?????/????.com etc.

Like if a Gil Seller shouts in Uldah or /tells a player the game will message Square Enix Headquarters if they are using any combo of words. Once a Character seems to repeating these key words over and over they can be easily taken care over.

Im Sure few other key words can be added to the list.
The problem with key words is that RMT can use other words or change the words a bit.
The best would be if we can right click on the name in the chat, choose "report" and the name with chat text get send to SE.

It would work against RMT, harrasment and foul language.

The best way to stop RMT is to stop buying gil. I mean seriously there were people who bought gil in FFXIV?

Anyway they need a report feature like they have on WoW. You see someone spaming in shout chat right click their name and hit report. If one person gets reported a lot it gets a higher priority for a GM to look into and ban them.

i have no faith in ffxiv gms after what happened in 1.xx, unless they do a serious upgrade on their gm status.

Though that button is more convenient (and much more prone to accidental clicking)...

There is something in XI AND XIV called the help desk. Where you can do the same thing.
