EA also let us lock our sims in a 2x2 room, set them on fire and starve them to death!

(In all seriousness, totally support SSM etc, ideas in my sig... gogo!)

I've been griping about this enough in real life, so I just say yes. There are plenty of couples in these games who are probably playing the same sex and deserve the same opportunity to marry each other without having to reroll specifically for it. I won't make an overly winded post (for once) in regards to it.

However, I say this as an NA player. Unfortunately this might not be as acceptable everywhere, and could cause issues with the playerbase.

In short, the APA cherry-picked their data to support their preconceived conclusions.

In fact other studies have shown just the opposite to be true.

*btw I wouldn't cite the APA for anything. They have been floating the idea that even pedophilia is not harmful to kids, Look it up.

And to the both of you, absolutely nothing to do with marriage in FFXIV/Eorzea.

So I guess our best shot is to ask them to rename the feature so they can remove the gender restriction instead of removing the marriage gender restriction. Fairly certain I saw someone already make a thread about that, those who are in support should go support that thread.

Their position is emotional and they won't be convinced by any arguments.. ever. - they just FEEL strongly about this and are the most vocal. These people will often view the opposition as homophobes, bigots, haters, despots, etc.

    2) People who are caught up into the latest cause de celebre (often passively). These people want SSM because the believe it to be popular or because they don't want to be treated as a wet-blanket, or ridiculed, or excluded from anything. These people put out very weak arguments for SSM and typically just say: "Why can't we all get along" or "If someone wants to do 'X', who are we to say they can't?". These people will frequently modify or change their position solely depending on what their friends, media, or other perceived popular sources are saying. (These types would be equally opposed to SSM if you asked them a mere 10 years ago)

Reading through the posts, its pretty easy to sort them into these two categories. And it's why arguing over it is largely useless.

I trust SE to do what's in their own best interest, and from my vantage point, implementing SSM is much more of a sticky issue than just staying out of it. In fact, I've said implementing ANY marriage in FFXIV is a silly/stupid idea.
You forgot the group that believes no government or organization should be aloud to extend rights and benefits to one group of people without extending those same rights to everyone.

If the contention is the word marriage then no one should be aloud to use it. You can't make two completely equal things and call them by two different names and expect people to not get offended.

Well here in MD I voted for a ballot question approving of same sex marriage. I have friends who are part of the LBGT Community and are married IRL and I have many who are gay, lesbian and transgender who play. It's a game and filled with fantasy; some of us even wish as children to have been these characters in real life. So why not allow fantasies to continue for those who are forced to not be able to marry and be with those they love?

Oh hai Moro! I was admiring the NIN lyrics in your sig (one of my favourite songs from my favourite NIN album!) and saw MoroScribble.. then I checked your char name and realized it was you! You've just become even more awesome in my book!

Your workaround ideas are great. Honestly, most of my friends in XI who married were not actually together in the real world, it was just something they did with friends for fun -- so I really like the vague 'pact' idea. In XI it didn't necessarily mean you were really a couple in love, yet it was still called marriage. I feel that 'pact' or 'bond' etc. are great terms to allow the players themselves to define what it means to them.

Really, this is an MMO in which we can make whichever choice we like -- we can choose to be a human or a catgirl, we can choose to play a mage or melee, we can even choose if we want to set Fire or Cure, and which slot we want it set in. If we don't want to do any of those things, then we don't have to. I feel it should be the same way with marriage. You don't like it? Then don't do it. And to avoid upsetting others, I think a private instance for the wedding party would be a good idea. This also avoids weirdos trying to mess the whole thing up.

Boxykins!! <3 I'm so glad you like NIN, now we have extra things bonding us, like blue hair haha! (I am totally loving Karen-O/trent/atticus mashups, they're soooo intense!)

I'm glad you like my ideas, that really means a lot! I just hope that SE sees this and it catches on haha @_@

The instance thing sounds awesome!! One thing I disliked in XI was when trolls would try to mess up a wedding D: not good times at all ._.;!

I hope you stay well Boxy! If you need to throw me a message or anything just smack something on one of my blogposts and I'll get back to you!
