Funny, last I checked, I voted for same-sex marriage. I didn't vote for me. i voted for my friends who have same-sex partners or close friends that play the game.

Well it's a good thing I was talking entirely about YOUR point of expressing something in a game so you didn't take it out of context and apply it to real life situ....oh wait nevermind.

I agree a downplay or outright removal of the word "marriage" would probably work to SE's favor.

Expanding on the idea of signed/engraved rings, this was already a feature in XI (crafters can sign their gear; if I recall Yoshi-P mentioned the possibility of it happening in XIV too). I'd love to see it happen in XIV too!

I'm a female who plays a male character, so I ran into this "marriage" problem on XI, because my partner at the time was male playing male character; two males couldn't marry of course, so we made up for it by exchanging signed rings which we either equipped or carried in bazaar for 99999999999999999trillion gil (XD) Then they later introduced synthed wedding gear like the gowns for females, though males did not have formal attire until the 8th anniversary event).

Back to the topic of the word marriage though, if it's cast as something else, say..."union" or "joining of the souls" as others have suggested, SE could clean its hands of any "official" stance, because it's not CALLED marriage officially. The playerbase of course would refer to it as marriage, kind of the same way we have unofficial words for things like "aggro" vs emnity, "2-hr" instead of "special ability" (2hr coming from XI's 2hr cooldown of course)

The ceremony ITSELF can even be different, breaking away from the traditional events (such as bouquet throwing, or walking down aisle or something like that). Heck, even in real life wedding ceremonies vary greatly. Why not have a unique version for our in-game world?

Or you could have some self-awareness and realize the phrase is used constantly in exactly the way everyone else took it and, oh I don't know, use a different phrasing?

I was trying to say it was an error on my part to group the words together like I did, because my intended meaning was not as such.

Telling someone else it's their fault for not asking YOU what you meant is not the same as admitting you made an error.

Basically what you said and your response to this post was the equivalent of "I'm sorry you took it that way." That's not an apology, it's blaming the person who took something exactly the way you phrased it as what you meant.

It was your fault for being quick to pounce. It was my fault for misconstruing what I was trying to say. We both made a mistake and leave it at that :/
