A GM has to investigate - there's no way they can just toss someone in jail just because a player said so. A bad reputation does have an effect on jerks, even though they may not see it right away.

You misunderstand my point. I am not asking for people to get banned for no reason.

This is not the case. A lot of people came to me when bullied when I ran a larger LS and I can say that my personal experience says otherwise. Yes, there are those who incite drama and point fingers but that does not discredit the legitimate problem of online harassment.

Yes it does. If you develop a thicker skin these people won't be able to bother you. It will help in other areas of you life as well. If some silly kids in online are enough to cause you emotional stress I can't imagine what kind of effect something more serious might have on you.

Another person with a good point ^^. Nothing bad can come from growing a thicker skin. I definitely encourage that to avoid some minor emo moments that really is not worth paying attention to. Now I wish we would could be like that but sadly emotions are stronger and can get to you anytime even with a thicker skin. Sometimes people become cruel and unemotional towards some sensitive matters and that's where I get scare from. Lets focus not about the mental stability of the person on how to deal with emotions in real life but rather how people can deal with emotions on their relaxing and having fun time. Imagine this scenario, you come home from an stressing work day then you decided to relax with the stuff that you like and that you even pay for it. Then someone decides that they want mess with you because they just had a bad day as you. I don't think is fair. You are just trying to enjoy a game and forget about everything in RL for a bit while this person brings up their drama to the game and wants to make you as miserable as him. You can ignore it but like everything in life, it has a limit. Some people go beyond those limits and at that point you can't rely on your thicker skin. We are humans therefore it will not always happen.

Also talking about a psychological level not everyone can do that, some use even the game as a strategy to cope against stress. You never know with who are you dealing with behind that monitor. I bet that at this thread no one here have a 100% thick skin. Everyone at some point, and not just once but several times, have encounter people that have hurt/anger them by someone being mean or rude. It is impossible to be bullet proof for everything and every time.

Well yeah, that's how it'd work. People would be rating you based on how they felt the rating should mean. Everyone would get bad points, but after 1000 ratings, your character would be mostly accurately portrayed, even if you say, had a bad grouchy night or two. And I think that if you are generally a nice person, earnest, and try hard, people will sense that and rate you with good marks.

This reputation system exists in many other games, and they usually work as intended.

If I was being legitimately hassled and worried about online bullying i'd:

1. Report the person to a GM/moderator/person in charge
2. Block the person

If they made a new account to harass me i'd follow the exact same steps, the amount of work needed by the person to keep harassing you would make it absolutely not worth it if you:

DON'T REPLY.
DON'T INSTIGATE.

Those two rules are the most important to follow. When you're in school, if someone bullies you then you have to stand up for yourself.

If you're online you can simply avoid the issue entirely. If you're replying then the person is getting exactly what he/she wants, and will keep doing it for fun.

If by "fair" you mean nothing happens to someone who harasses others with no consequence other than some people knowing they are a jerk, then I do not see the justice in that.

I'm not asking for insane bans like Microsoft does on XBL, just warnings and/or temporary jail like they used to do. It's not too much to ask for.

Get a new LS. People do it all the time. There are plenty in the game. What would SE even be do about this anyway?

None of these things should cause you any "emotional stress." You can find these things in any game online so if you can't deal it the only thing I can suggest is playing some console game where you don't have to interact with anyone.

Woa O.O we do want to keep playing the game and cyber bully is a factor that affects MANY in their play time.

Ok lets talk about the issue that most of us care. If you feel that it is not that important then you got the right to not care about this thread and just ignore it but please be considerate that some do care and feel that is important. This is not for the people that can deal with it in an effectively manner but about the people that really can't and the people that cares about those. I guess the thing is with me is that I had an extremely stressful job. So compared to what I was dealing with at work there isn't anything anyone can do or say in game that would bother me much. No, saying it's not a problem because someone can just grow thick skin is a fallacy and trying to discredit my point by asking how I deal with real life stress is a borderline ad hominem attack that adds nothing to the debate.

True. I always advice that to everyone. If they do that is because the really got nothing better to do while you do have it. That should be enough to make you feel strong and move on. However like I said not everyone is as strong as you. I have seen people stopping playing and others just feeling bad because of it. I can also relate to them because I was there 2 times in the past on my years of playing FFXIV. Not long enough to affect me to the point of stop playing but enough to grind my gears lol
