So adding a needless frustration that makes some more wary of taking risks is stepping forward? To be quite honest, I find it a step backwards to do that. Find other ways to punish the player that do not set one back in progress, such as damage to gear, debuffs (like we have right now!), or something else. Not an outdated punishment that does nothing other than to frustrate someone.
Rise Against - TorchesThe angels dance like feathers float, they're here to see and to be seen,
The clock strikes two, the music slows and each one slowly dons their wings,
Once outside they all pair off and hand in hand they leave
But I'm still waiting, yeah, and I'm still waiting
so everytime i die... i need to relevel again just to wear my bloody armor again.. zzzzz I'm sorry this would not work.... .
I love how nobody pointed out how easy it is for new players to die in this game considering there are random high level aggro mobs wandering around low level areas *COUGHCOUGH Level 30 Buzzards between Bearded Rock and Bloodshore*
Not only does it discourage exploration but it would also make EXP loss on death pretty unappealing.

I don't understand... Why do you want FFXIV to be exactly like FFXI, if you could just go play FFXI? They're even adding a new expansion for it, I fail to see your loss here. Before you look at my character's levels and note that I've barely gotten one job to 50, I'll also note that I didn't really play FFXI that much, but I did try it. As a casual player, I found it annoying to hit level 10, run over to the dunes, and have to find a party every time I wanted to play for a half hour before class or work. What I would be proposing is both deleveling + harder to level up + require mandatory EXP parties beyond lvl 10 to level up + impossible to solo beyond lvl 10 + impossible to PL.
Most of the time I was unlucky enough to login when there was no dunes parties happening, so I pretty much couldn't do anything. MMOs should have options, and they've progressed to the point that leveling is a means to an end, but not so much the game itself. The leveling process teaches us how to play our characters by slowly giving us new challenges, and introducing us to new skills. De-leveling in FFXI, or everquest, or any game it's been in, is just a time sink, and it's a time sink that can turn many people off of the game.
Being able to solo to level works, because it gives the guy with not much time to play the ability to login anyway just to get a few leves on a job before he rushes off to do whatever. Now, I'm not all for solo content the whole way through, by all means, keep parties mandatory for all progression that counts after hitting level 50, but let players level solo if they so wish.
If you want to do exp parties, do them. Don't take away a current core aspect of the game just because you want the entire community to play like you.
What's the point of exploring the unknown if you know you will be 100% safe? That is unappealing.I love how nobody pointed out how easy it is for new players to die in this game considering there are random high level aggro mobs wandering around low level areas *COUGHCOUGH Level 30 Buzzards between Bearded Rock and Bloodshore*

The only thing it would discourage is stupidity, and blindness. Those aggro mobs are very easy to avoid.
Or, you know, punish people for disconnects. It doesn't work anymore, just drop it. Why are you intent on ruining the game for people who don't want to play like you?
And what about people who have never played an MMO? Is the fact that those mobs don't aggro if you don't see them or that they even aggro common knowledge? Or common knowledge to those who play MMO's? People aren't stupid for not automatically knowing game mechanics.
This.
Here;s the fear, if you die in a dungeon good-luck trying to speedrun chest bonus. If you die in hamlet goodluck getting 60k+. So ya, I'd say dying/wiping is to be feared, one mess up and you increase the time it takes to complete an event and by doing that you reduce the amount of loot you get. So you have to be on the ball any screwups/fatalities pretty much means you miss out on a potential reward. Which is way better then, oh you died now regain some xp to make up for it.One of the best features of FFXI is not present right now in FFXIV.
Deleveling was a necessary element as the game doesn't punish you enough for dying in FFXIV.
Oh look, your gear condition has lowered by 10%! And you have to return to a home point. Is this supposed to be scary? NO.
I want to feel terrified of dying. I want to **** my pants every time I enter a dungeon or face a threatening enemy. This game NEEDS the element of constant fear.
Stop cattering to the casual market, and please try to bring back hardcore elements from the old FFXI days.
Please bring back deleveling for 2.0!!!
