So why'd they burn the man hours on it? An at best useless gimmick just to appease some players? There are no plans for using the jump for any elements of gameplay it’s just there for those that want to jump.
Ahh right it's a game for the players where they want to make the players happy.
Since there are NO plans for it to be more than a /emote in function why not let it be turned off?
Is it really such a big deal to now spend the man hours to add a toggle jump visibility, they spent the hours to let people turn off their head and weapon gear just to make people happy.

I would like this too we should start a thread >_>.Maybe i should also ask for display off Roegadyn and Miqotes too because jesus they are the ugliest race imo.
Stashed away implied potential mass =/= Tangible see-on-sight relative and calculable mass
It is assumed any loot and armor you carry around is hidden away in some kind of Bag O' Holding. Or just not brought up at all for the obvious reason that keeping tally on that and maintaining the illusion means everyone would walk around with a single complete set of gear and perhaps an oversized napsack for their jammies.
They used the Euphoria Tool for life like and realistic player animations for in-motion movements. Like when you stop from a full run you don't just halt at that precise location. Instead your character stamples to a slow then a stand. Leaning back and flaring their arms as a real person would do naturally. The /dance and all their other /emotes are very detailed and you can feel the weight behind each one.
The reason I'm concerned about jumping is it is not easy to do and if don't wrong makes your game look godamn ridiculous.
In nearly every single MMO I can ponder at jumping has never truly been done well. That is because jumping is hard in reality. Seriously, stand up and wipe away the Fun-O-yuns from your shirt then give yourself a massive hop. How much clearance did you make. One? Two feet? In MMO's every single godamn jump has the player clearing 4-5 feet. Not to mention the landing and stagger after, of which I mean there are none. Either the embrace realism and denote the fact that people don't jump and if they do they don't get very high. Or shatter any perception of the entire game's principle of realistic movements and let everyone jump around like the Contra Dudes.
WELL THEN MR. VERSED AND AWESOME GALKA DUDE. WHAT IF THEY MAKE THE JUMPS SHORT AND REALISTIC?
Glad you asked. They can't. Looky here.

JESUS CHRIST!
Look at her! That Mithra is made of high tension spring cords and jump jets. She all but Spider Man'd up a 3 story building. Now that makes sense because Cat girls are very athletic and 'bouncy'. I wouldn't put it past one of them to make that maneuver. What of a Hyur? Or an Lalafell? Not in this Umbra Era, or the next. Now do you see the problem? If you add 'realistic' jumping you could not standardized it across all Races because they are just that diverse in body make up that not even the most rabid Keyboard Spammer could defend it. The only solution is to make them different, which is a huge No No.
Different but all the same. That is FFXIV's creed. You may have chosen the Hulking Galka or the Lithe Mithra but as far as the stats and movement speed are concerned. You're all the same base model. SE would never break against that since it would give unfair advantage to one Race over another. Which I could easily see igniting a hellish fire storm the likes of which this Forum has not even begun to dread. If they had the gall to do so.
Leave Jumping to the Games which don't have the creative talent and artistic fortitude to explore their own unique solution to character movement.
As I said earlier, the people that wanted non-contextual jump have done so because it gives them fun and/or more options. For them to obfuscate the option to turn off jumping is hypocritical, regardless of their reasoning as they claimed "choice"/"fun" to have it in the first place!
1. Any sort of jumping for reasons of terrain can easily be overcome by contextual jumping; any possibility of jumping would be needed in-game could also be overcome by contextual or even "QTE"-ish jumping, which can use another mechanic instead of the jumping feature to be implemented.
2. Resources were already spent to bring us jumping when fewer resources could've been used for contextual jumping.
3. Jumping will still not stop you from crossing the invisible wall.
4. It's not your place to decide what is or isn't fun for someone else.
In fact, now that I think about it, maybe we should require jumping to come with a Quick-Time Event as well. Instead of just being allowed to press the spacebar, you should have to type in a random set of keys appearing on screen. If people are truly only going to use it to overcome terrain as some claim (contrary to the fact that people do in fact use jump far more in most MMORPGs than they should), it would hardly be a problem to have QTE-based jumps to begin with.
I think the keyword here is if a feature may appeal new customers, they will do it as long as it doesnt hurt current customer.
Nobody is going to quit this game because of jump, nuff said. If you are going to quit because jump is around, good go away because you are clearly in minority of the minorities.
Nobody is going to quit this game because jump can be turned off either, 'nuff said. If you are going to quit because I'll be able to stop you from jumping on my screen, then please, by all means, quit because you are clearly in the smallest minority of minorities.I think the keyword here is if a feature may appeal new customers, they will do it as long as it doesnt hurt current customer.

Sorry, no jump filter for you. If we start making toggles for every tiny bit of annoyance in this game the menus would be all consuming, and twice as pointless.People that wanted jump complaining about the lack of choice are the ones against the option of being able to turn it off despite the fact it won't affect their gameplay. Hypocrites, all of them.
RE: "Resources could be better spent elsewhere."
Fact: they could've also just implemented contextual jumping with fewer resources. Now get over yourselves. You got what you wanted, so you should give some.
I will state this plainly - if jumping is a game breaker for you... actually no, if jumping is a game breaker for you by all means please leave. I'm done trying to dissuade people's obsessive compulsive disorders.
A better solution would be to make jump more meaningful. If I can tap space-bar to have my character leap into the air, then I better damn well be able to traverse over small ledges of terrain. No more Ankle size one way drops. That's what I want for jump.
Oh, and I want a feature to completely wipe someone from my visual spectrum, not just place their chat on ignore. /display dragon off. And not even an ignore notice will show. Cause I think seeing when someone on my ignore list has made a post is annoying and I shouldn't have to grow up and deal with it.
(And no, Dragon, I'm just being facetious, you're not on my ignore list yet.)
They put man power on jump because it might appeal potential customer, they are not gonna put manpower on jump filter because well.. you are already a customer and jump filter isn't something you advertise in your CE box.
Ergo, all choices are equal, some more than others. Right?
The fact you and those like you continue to obfuscate and obstruct an option only shows your hypocrisy when you wanted the option to have jump to begin with whether it was out of respect for having more "options" or because it makes the game more "fun".
