Jumping is not pointless, but pointless or not, they are adding it and that's that. Why do people still whine about this?

Yoshida tapped on the space bar and his male miqo’te jumped up (though due to the nature of the current version there wasn’t any animation for it. There are no plans for using the jump for any elements of gameplay it’s just there for those that want to jump. You won’t be able to jump to avoid Ifrit’s attacks or anything.

Because it is pointless. Once it gets introduced, there will be a number of people who constantly spam the spacebar, not intentionally to annoy people, but just because. It happens in every single MMO I've played, and its annoying. If it is just an animation to attract the WoW crowd, then there should be an option to turn it off.

Yep, that means it's completely useless. No terrain to cross or anything. I can't dodge plume = useless ability.

Also throwing out the "WoW-crowd" is silly. So Kingdom Hearts, Xenoblade, FFXIII-2, etc all implemented jumping to appeal to the wow crowd? Really? I doubt WoW fans are going to move to this game over a simple jump mechanic.

You'll get over jump like you got over Goobbues, and auto-attack, and instanced content.

I think this is a poor translation. Saying that it wouldn't be used for battle probably would've been more accurate.

We've already seen 2.0 concept art that has gaps we're supposed to jump over, just look at the PDFs.



Edit: I'm trying to find a link to the specific picture, but google is only turning up the art that was just released during E3. It's one of the the forest ruin artworks though.

It hasn't happened in any MMO I"ve played, despite apparently playing some of hte same ones as you.

People don't just spam jump all the time. IT JUST DOESN'T HAPPEN.

And even if it DID happen, it is beyond my ability to comprehend why it's such a big deal.

People that wanted jump complaining about the lack of choice are the ones against the option of being able to turn it off despite the fact it won't affect their gameplay. Hypocrites, all of them.

This isn't about being against choice. How do you choose not to see someone move on the z-axis? Again, this requires the server lying to the jump-disabling client about that player's location. Turning off the animation doesn't make it look any less obnoxious if that's how you feel about jumping.

It just puzzles me why people are both so passionately for or against jumping. it's incredible how something so small and so simple is such a hot debate....

It doesn't need to be that high

He's not jumping high. He's jumping down from the ledge visible in the shot. Which is what jump should exist for in the first place.

Glad its coming, love getting to random places with it. Also I'm one of those people that like to spam jump, no reason don't know why. Maybe because it keeps me focused and doing something?

You won't be getting to random places with jump here so unless you like spamming jump just to see it then you'll definitely be happy.

There will plenty of opportunity for them to add places and area's that take advantage of it, especially if people ask for it.
