i'm not even bashing the game. i simply don't understand how it's so difficult for people to see that it is simply a 'new' iteration of the exact same old formula as before.
It's not the essential quest formula that's changed, when you break it down it's still kill X, gather Y, escort Z, etc. What makes it different is that the quests have storylines, the outcomes actually affect each other and the world can respond in different ways.

After centaurs attacked a village (we lost the event) and broke through one of the walls, the NPCs went out and gathered materials and repaired the wall in real time, complete with voice acted dialogue. If we had driven the centaurs off, the outcome would have been completely different and likely opened up new quests. And that's just one event of hundreds all throughout the game world.

It's that kind of thing that makes the world feel alive and dynamic. Would you HONESTLY not want to see things like that in XIV?
