Lol cute and innocent, or ignorant. Privacy is privacy for a reason, it's not a big deal for nothing. And trust me baseless sh*tters run rampant whether you see it or not, whether you play with a select group of people or not. I keep my logs to myself and analyze them with the relevant people.

It is immensely valuable for diagnosing wipes. Being able to see what mitigation people had, being able to check how much they were overkilled by, how many heals they received leading up to wipes. This is invaluable for progression.

You can get all this information in the in-game battle log or by talking to your party members. You should be able to prog a fight without looking up other people's logs and using them as a guide. Sounds like you're using FFLogs as a crutch.

Most of my grievances with fflogs are more directly with the way they run the page rather than anything SE has any way to control

FFLogs characters should be private by default. I've already seen people willing to check others on fflogs in order to harrass them, even had one myself who decided to rag on me because of a grey parse that was... my first time at a normal raid, logged by someone I don't even know. And, while it is reportable, it would be way better to fix the problem at the root rather than have the GM plug the leaks. And, again, that's something the website owners should be aware of. SE has pretty much little to do with it.

The battle log is impossible to read. It's a huge mess and you cannot even filter what to see or not see. SE should improve it drastically and add DoT/HoT values in there, as well.

So the reply to that sentence is correct: the battle log cannot be used for this purpose, as anyone that had spent a modicum of time trying would very quickly know.

Additionally, as I have said earlier in the thread, it's useful as a tool for double checking what abilities people are using at what times, and ensuring they're being used to maximum value.
It's also valuable as a comparison tool. If I'm playing a healer and I'm unsure about what mit to use, I can literally check a bunch of logs from high ranking healers and compare what they're using, and when. Similarly as a DPS, I can check what fight specific optimisations people are using, and apply that myself. FRU had a LOT of this, so it was very useful to be able to check what the best players are doing.
If you think fflogs isn't useful for prog, you're not serious about prog.

The use of a ‘DPS Meter’ (Details! on WoW) is absolutely against the ToS and we all agree that it should not be in play under any circumstances. Now, however, let's use reality: FFlogs is a tool that allows you to get metric data on what you are doing to improve your performance during the fight. The game has moments where a ‘DPS check’ is required and you have to realise what you are doing wrong willy-nilly. In the game there is a great form of silence because of ToS so no one will ever give you that openly wrong to not risk being reported, but in the meantime in some linkshell they are insulting you... don't think there is any difference between the WoW community and the FF14 community we are both human as a species and so behaviours are repeated. Would you rather be blacklisted because you didnt enough DPS and no one can tell you or maybe evaluate what you are doing wrong via tools like FFlogs and try to improve for you and your team?

I think ACT in FF14 is just as much popular as Details! in WoW, legal in WoW, illegal in FF14, but in terms of usage, it's probably the same
