I just hope that the WoL gets more screentime again. And that I don't have to speak to Wuk Lamat too often in the future.
I also don't think that her personality was the problem. She just got much too much space.

I don't know why some people give a pass to actors/voice actors and blame it all direction... Is it because actors are more in the public spotlight, using social media and giving interviews and thus seem "human" and we feel bad for them, while the voice directors are a nameless grunt in the chain? They are people too. Yes, they've clearly failed at their job, but so too have the voice cast.
They're the ones who've performed below par.
They are the ones who submitted those bad takes and thought these are the best representation of themselves.
If voice directions did or did not provide context clues for dialogue (something VERY apparent in ARR for example), the voice actors could have asked for a clarification.
The English dub of DT is way below par - and with a few good performances, like that Miqo sheriff, the bad ones stand out even more.
DT MSQ was a shhhstorm of bad, from writing to localisation, to quest design to the ENG dub and beyond. I don't excuse anyone for selling us a failed product.
yeah this. it was incredibly apparent to me that wuk's english VA just does not have the range to pull off the character. it was a total miscast.I don't know why some people give a pass to actors/voice actors and blame it all direction... dont know if i full agree here. sphenes plans for the source would have caused issues 100% later on if we ignored them. also the WOL loves his star. he wouldn't sit by while people are being killed, he wont even use the beast souls in the raid because they are peoples souls.I don't think the issue was the low stakes. Rather, it's that we were given no reason to care about the stakes. We had no indication of Zarool Ja getting star destroyers from Wish edition Emet. We did know he wasn't getting the throne. Gulool said as much.
Our investment died right there, and was beaten further into the dust with the trials largely not actually testing leadership capacity but serving as a color by numbers tour... for Wuk. A tour for us is fine, but she wasn't being tested as a leader.
So rather than a vacation, we're chaparoning a five year old on a leash on their road trip.
It made it all very, very hollow.
yea that wont be me, her va was bad. failed to emotionally deliver 99% of the time. its crazy the rest of the cast in dt are absolutley amazing. but that one is really a bad one. whats even wilder is that on her twitter she actually has some good demo reels. so wtf happened?I don't know why some people give a pass to actors/voice actors and blame it all direction... i am sorry but this just flat out problematic. there are nothing but amazing va's in dt's english version.. except for her, and i will not cast all the others aside because of one bad apple. And whats worse its because shes shoved into everything, every cs every moment, her english vs is also really hard to tolerate to be entirely polite. its not transphobia. its not hard to dislike that person and want them removed and there character with them.I find most of the criticism about Wuk Lamat to be misplaced, with the English localization probably being a bit weaker, but people needlessly beating up on the VA choice for reasons that have nothing to do with the game. Just people being hateful. If you don't like the English voice acting, the Japanese voice acting is still an option.
literally praying that wol gets the character development hes had in SHB/EW

Although you didn't quote my post, what you say does seem like an indirect response to it.I don't know why some people give a pass to actors/voice actors and blame it all direction... And to be clear, I said "the larger issue was with voice direction". Which isn't to say that I think that was the issue in it's entirety. However, I do maintain the opinion that more 'fault' lays with the voice director. I mean, if I'm given a task to do at work but don't produce what I was asked to, and am pulled up on it, I fully expect to be told something like "do it again, and do it right this time". And it doesn't feel as if that is what happened here.
Again, the voice acting was lacking in places - not arguing otherwise - but the fact is someone must have reviewed those scenes and decided that they were acceptable.

I think her personality was a huge problem for the role they wanted her to fill. Leader of a nation. Imagine Wuk Lamat at the table when the Alliance met with Varis. We'd probably still be at war.
"i knew dawntrail reception would be highly negative, i made it shit on purpose after all"
ok then
at least kudos to pcgamer for being the only ones to press his ass on the issue. even if all we got is a weird corpo ghoul response

I'd love to see Varis roast her....She'd probably start crying I'm sure.

Yeah - I think Wuk Lamat alone would be an absolute disaster in that scenario - the "I want to understand you" mindset would've prompted a response she wouldn't be equipped to address. Koana, however, would very likely fare better... assuming he could get Wuk Lamat to shut the hell up!
