They're able to make quite a wide variety of gear with the stats that exist as it is. There's actually gear with stats that do not exist within the confines of our attribute sheet such as the enhanced skill effects, Store TP, Regen and Refresh.
Simple and dumb? Simple is not a good thing all the time, especially in a video game. I want a very depth system with tons of choices.
