Unable to use Visa debit (north American)

If they want people to pay their taxes based on where they actually live... then why don't they let us change our country of residence and payment currency on their website? Or even through customer support?

That solution would be way too easy and too obvious.

Hmm, interesting.... it does explain one thing conclusively though - exactly why they've suddenly started cracking down on region restrictions for accounts (and thus the forcing of players to verify their billing address - it's for... taxation purposes (probably to ensure that the right tax type and amount is charged depending on where you are for tax purposes. And before you pass judgement, I was sent an email from Paypal earlier in the year about something similar, needing to verify my address/location for taxation purposes. Because I refused (I haven't used the account in ages), Paypal closed it. So I presume there has been a legal directive by governments to ensure sales tax/VAT/GST or whatever the tax is called is charged and paid to the relevant government.

And although that seems to only be specific to North America (there is no equivelant mention about EU/UK/rest of the world), I'm liable to assume it affects everyone.

Goes to show that not even Square Enix, not even the Warrior of Light... can defeat the goddessdamn Taxman...

That isn't the case actually, I've used a foreign debit card (Lebanese) and my address isn't there on the SE account (it's not even a listed country on this game) and it still worked.

Do you have a subscription that is renewed automatically? These ones are being continued undisturbed, even with outdated payment methods like mine (sepa). Trouble starts as soon as you like to buy anything from the store, add a retainer or anything else.

No, I just resubbed after I bought a fantasia and both worked using that card.

For those that are having visa debit issues with subscription renewal and also have extra retainers, were you able to pay for the subscription + retainers with amazon pay? I know I saw some saying that crysta wouldn't pay for the retainers.

I didn't use Amazon Pay myself, but I used PayPal to buy all the Crysta that I needed and it covered it all-in-one both my subscription and my extra retainers. I don't know if it's different though with Amazon pay.

I haven't heard about anyone having issues specifically with that, (in fact I think most players even forget it exists as a payment option). I have seen at least one person state they used it to successfully buy Crysta for their sub though after the system rejected their Visa debit card however. Either way, as it is a seperate option for payment on the Mogstation, I was looking at using that as a possible last resort if the debit card issue isn't resolved in the next few months (when my current Visa debit card expires and I have to renew it).

Its been over a month and no update specially with a expansion about to be released? I only use debit. Does Square Enix not want peoples money?
The worst type of business is to make customers go through hoops to give them money.
It should be the easiest thing to give a company is your money but I guess square enix doesn't want certain peoples money.
