They might not be numerically overpowered but sure are overpowered in the sense of requiring zero brain power to autopilot while learning and performing difficult content.
It's basically impossible to make a costly mistake as SMN, min max can be learned in a handful of pulls which basically just comes down as choosing the correct lego colors
All while still bringing addle, a personal shield, a res and insane instant burst with zero buildup required, oh and yeah no casts.
it is downright unfair how overpowered they are versus Redmage, I believe current SMN should not exist, but it has to exist I at least hope they don't take this route with any other job.
Honestly, I miss old summoners' intricacy but that's all. I love that they actually summon primals now but thats all I love about new summoner. It's way too easy and just feels unfinished right now.
If anything current SMN in casual dungeons kinda reminds me a little of HW SMN in dungeons how broken it is and cleans everything before anybody has even had time to pop buffs. In both cases, just press a button and drop a nuke (or a series of nukes) with a 100% frontloaded burst AoE damage. I absolutely hate when I'm paired with those as a DPS. They don't require any skill and they'll kill everything before you can even have fun.
I guess it's good for people that hate doing dungeons and want to be done with them as fast as possible though.
To be fair that’s not exclusively a SMN problemIf anything current SMN in casual dungeons kinda reminds me a little of HW SMN in dungeons how broken it is and cleans everything before anybody has even had time to pop buffs. You ever do AOE with a dark that knows what they are doing
They WILL nuke the mobs, the WILL out DPS you on any class and you just get to sit there and watch as you futilely try to charge your buffs
Yeah some tanks also have that problem. Their DPS is a bit lower overall but the frontload is so high that the burst remains similar, and instant, while yours need to ramp up on most dps jobs.
Edit: which is kinda putting the finger on another gigantic problem with a lot of jobs those days, everything is frontloaded behind a button or two without much buildup.
When I think of "summoner", I think of choosing from a collection of critters based on:
- Resource cost (MP)
- Cast time
- Offensive effects, including differing damage types and crowd control mechanisms
- Defensive effects
Fire vs. ice vs. lightning vs. water. Short cast and low MP for low damage vs. long cast and high MP for high damage. That sort of thing. (I'm ambivalent on whether a summon does a flashy move and leaves, or whether you get to control it for a bit.)
Endwalker's SMN job has none of that. What it has are a collection of generic insta-cast damage buttons that you essentially push on a timer.
as for Endwalker, I can't help but quote an old lady from Besaid Village: "STAY AWAY FROM THE SUMMONER"
How about making it fun to play instead of mindless?
You can take your logic to the extreme of adding a literal god mode job, and still argue there must be nothing wrong with it because everyone uses it, so anyone who disagrees is just a clout chasing elitist.
EDIT: This game doesn't even have jobs that are so hard that anyone thinks they have bragging points, where is this insecurity even coming from? I've seen literally zero players with superiority complexes about their chosen class in this game (unless you count certain tanks, but that's less about job/role difficulty). The only thing people are complaining about is jobs becoming so shallow they simply aren't fun to play anymore, who is this strawman who wants "clout"?
