    Umm. I don't know? Dragon Age Origins had auto-attack and it was still challenging and pretty long too. Didn't FF11 have auto attack? DA2 on the other hand is getting a lot of flack for "NOT" having auto-attack, and needing to use spamming of the buttons for attacks. Hate spamming! >-(

    indeed it have next to 0 impact on involvement. The game is too boring anyway <_< so simplifiedit makes you go and puke. Simplification and skillspam.

    Ok, so let's think about what we have right now that can't work with AA.
    - mostly all the buffing skills
    - auto-facing
    - stamina gauge
    - TP management (including TP buffing skills)
    - BR
    - normal attack's damage
    - normal attack's variations

    This is only about AA, without counting all of the changes they are gonna make that don't concern the battle system (armory system, stat points, physical level...). They also said they can't tell us anything yet coz they're still testing (wich makes me think that they don't know yet)
    Add the fact that we don't have any real content, when are we gonna play the real game? 2050?

    How is scrapping everything istead of improving what we already have the best solution??
    And Yoshida said we are gonna see the first changes in spring... If it's not just an AA thrown in the current system I bet he was talking about spring 2012

    I think what people are upset about is that's what it did mean to certain jobs in FFXI. I'm hopeful that SE will recognize that's the source of the anger and prevent it from recurring here.

    I know that auto-attack isn't significant in either time or total damage in any other game I have played--yes, definitely including WoW, where anyone only doing "white damage" is laughed out of the raid and probably off of the server.

    No offense, but at some point you can't help but think badly of someone who is basically saying "everyone but me is wrong and not getting it".

    Game was bad, and the developers think so too, that's why you're not paying for the game. In the long run, it won't matter if those who liked the original systems aren't around when everything is said and done. That's why this approach is being taken.

    Again, we (those playing right now) aren't the customers they're aiming for, because we're the minority.

    Not sure if it's still like that in Cata, but I know that for classes like rogues and warriors in WoW, auto-attack is the biggest source of damage (for most of the game's existence up until now). BUT. This does, by no means whatsoever, mean you can AFK fights and win (to anyone thinking this is the case). Not only are fights not tuned that retardedly low, but abilities and class mechanics are built up so that everything feeds into each other.

    Auto-attack shouldn't even remotely be an issue if the game is constantly being balanced, as it should be, being an ever-evolving MMO.

    they might be only custommer they are getting for a long time. Becouse ( as i said earlier ) game habve bad public and horrible reputaion. So even if they make is wow clone it wont bring people from WoW.

    Look at SOE. Star Wars Galaxies were a nice game with interesting mechanics, and sanbox classes. some manager decided that cutrrent player base wasnt their tatrget custopmers, and made game a wow clone ( a real die-hard wow clone). effect? they lost half of old player base, gained none, and now game is a ghost game, people play for star-wars feeling and excellent player housing ( hell i am resubing every few months to re-decorate my house ). Also what are you saying is insulting to people who play, and i guess to SE. Cos if SE decide to ingore the needs of minority, it will give them even worse reputation, and last thing XIV needs is comparison to NGE SWG.

    Wow I can't believe all the hate for auto attack, do you think the game plays itself for you or something because of it??? It worked fine in FFXI a little slow but they says it will be speeded up for FFXIV. If you think the battle system in FFXI was boring and you just engaged and let auto attack go and did nothing else you were doing it wrong lol

    Yes, actually, that's exactly what many people think. And in fact, it was a huge problem in FFXI.

    If you play most melee jobs in FFXI, this is how combat goes: Wait for 100% TP > macro. Wait > macro. Wait > macro. And all that waiting is just watching your character auto attack until they have TP again. It's BORING. AS. HELL.

    And it's an excuse for many people to do something else while playing, like watching TV.

    I'm just hoping they learned from their mistakes in FFXI and find a way to implement AA decently... but I'm not holding my breath.

    SWG was a somewhat successful game at the time, with a healthy playerbase for its time (that enjoyed the game), which had also been out for a significant amount of time before the changes (around 2 years if I'm not mistaken).

    FFXIV is a game that came out in an unnacceptable state for a 2006 MMORPG (let alone 2010), that has to compete in an overly saturated market, with a dying and decaying playerbase that was low to begin with, which was bashed by pretty much all the international media.

    I'm just going to drop the argument here, I'm only going to repeat the things I've been saying at this point, and you pulled out the SWG card, which I was actually expecting.
