That said, it's already been revealed, so unless the overwhelming majority of the playerbase disaprove of the name, they ain't changing it.

However, having said that I assume the naming is due to it being a New World job and therefore being named by the tribes of the new world.

I would expect the new caster job to be similarly "Animal aspect" named, perhaps "Turtle"?
Sage at least feels like a coalescence of very Sage-y references. I initially hated Sage but now I think it is one of the most clever evolutions of the original job in the game, where the weapons both reflect the job's prerequisite of acquiring all four crystals of light, and also often resemble the magic-casting "fang" items from the earlier titles. And the addersting/gall DPS/heal duality is just the same concept of Sage being a strong magical healer and damage dealer, just bent into a different space than the same black/white magic spells every other class uses.

After Sage used the "snake" motifs with Addersting/Addersgall and arguable "fang" weapons, I don't think any name can really excuse the fact that Viper is just the same motif all over again. And actually, if I wanted to be even more savage, we already have a reptilian-possessed melee job in Dragoon. Viper is literally just Dragoon without wings.
