6.1 doesn't even make sense as a new starting point (or more likely just a story skip point). The whole thing is wrapped around clearing up loose ends from 6.0.

Given how neatly things have wrapped up in 6.50, it seems like 6.55 or 7.0 are probably going to be better points to offer as a skip point.

It's from the Famitsu interview that occurred a few months ago.

This is from the translated notes(don't think there's an official English translated version):
They are planning for 6.1 to be a new starting point eventually. They aren't sure whether or not they're putting that in with 7.0 or not yet. He says it would be like starting a TV series from season 6, but either way they are preparing for 6.1 as a new starting point eventually.
    This is the interview itself:

Can you not shoot/mock the messenger? Trying not to get colorful here, but I genuinely want to ask if you people live under a rock.

hmmm the english translation doesn't confirm a starting point as well as doesn't confirm 6.1 to be the starting point

    Q) What will be the features in Dawntrail that will help old players to get back to the game or even bring new players to the adventures in this new area? How can they avoid getting lost in the current lore and get up-to-date to play Dawntrail? – Jeancarlos Mota, IGN Brasil

Yoshi P: Currently, since patch 6.1, we've implemented a system that allows players to revisit the lore and various characters throughout the stories. We're also contemplating ways to accommodate players who wish to bypass the earlier content and dive straight into the latest offerings.

Interestingly, every time we announce a new expansion, this question arises. I'm sure you're aware, but even with the release of a new expansion pack, our previous content doesn't become outdated. We continually revise and enhance our content, which is largely narrative-driven. I do ponder whether newcomers would be keen to skip directly to the new expansion pack.

Our Duty Support system ensures NPCs accompany you during Main Scenario quests, meaning you don't necessarily have to play alongside other players and can run through the content quickly. We've made it possible to experience the game solo. I understand the comparison to TV series, where someone might want to jump into season 6, for instance. However, we've ensured the earlier 'seasons' are accessible to newcomers. We do want people to play through the story though.

googling stuff doesn't bring anything up either.. it's why I asked. also if you're asking me if i live under a rock... I work a full time 40 hour job OVERNIGHT while at the same time still mourning the death of my younger brother after being killed in a car accident (one of the first deaths) due to Hurricane Idalia... so yeah gaming hasn't been on the top of my list for things. But I thank you for giving me the famistu untranslated site.

I thought Viper probably sounded cooler in Japanese, so I looked up the word there. Not impressed. People probably would have been happy if everything about the class remained the same and they just called it Corsair, maybe give you one ranged attack where you pull out a gun but not make it like this major part of your kit. I can easily see the character putting the twinblades together, then holding it in one hand to whip out the pistol and firing it while doing a backflip or even just as a basic ranged attack.

The name is going to take awhile to grow on me. I prefer legacy classes being used, even if they're completely re-imagined like Sage was. Coming up with new stuff is fine, like for the reaper. But having them back to back just seems a bit spammy. Although I am glad we're finally getting a proper western "rogue" like class. Seemed really jarring for me to unlock rogue, go through the rogue storyline, and then just have its entire identity stolen by the ninja. Having it as a branch that could have been a ninja or "viper" earlier on would have felt much better. And we can finally not feel so bad keeping ninja gear around. I think this may be the last physical dps class that comes out since every piece of gear now has two classes assigned to it.

At what point did I "shoot the messenger"? I didn't even quote anyone. I am remarking on the fact that 6.1 would be a terrible place to skip to, if the dev team are planning on it.

    Samurai, and Ninja are eastern.

If you want a classic RPG sword user that isn't a Tank, you have to use Red Mage, which is a MAGE even though it is a cool sword fighter.

Imo I think they should of called it a Swordsmaster, or Blademaster because it strongly resembles the Swordsmasters in other RPGs such as the Fire Emblem series, with the unique sword combo stance making it a more unique concept to FFXIV.

Viper is such an odd name for a job, and though I don't hate it, I do hope I learn to love the name of the job overtime. Does it actually have a meaning to the snake motif? If that ends up being the case, that actually would be quite cool. I do love how sometimes Yoshi P and the team are very good at delivering surprise concepts that we don't fully understand, but grow to love later. Such as Shadowbringers. No one expected that, but now its the fan favorite expansion.

Anyway these were just some of my thoughts. >:3
Given the paired blades combining into a single double bladed weapon essentially reminded me of Zidane in FF9 who had 2 different weapon types in the game which were paired knives/short swords, and double bladed swords that were called Thief swords in that game. Maybe they should have named the job Monkey.
