I'm not saying the writing in Genshin is perfect but it is certainly getting better over time (imo) and at the very least, serviceable for live service title. When you combine that with the gameplay, which has a diverse array of gameplay styles, builds, progression, etc combined with the visual and audio presentation, I just think it blows XIV away. XIV feels like an archaic walled garden in comparison.
For context I'm talking about the younger players and while Genshin and XIV aren't one to one (Genshin isn't an MMO) they're both live service titles competing for gamers time.
Genshin has a different problem tho. It's a gacha. And apparently an exploitative one at that. Tho very few gachas aren't.
