I'm not saying the writing in Genshin is perfect but it is certainly getting better over time (imo) and at the very least, serviceable for live service title. When you combine that with the gameplay, which has a diverse array of gameplay styles, builds, progression, etc combined with the visual and audio presentation, I just think it blows XIV away. XIV feels like an archaic walled garden in comparison.
For context I'm talking about the younger players and while Genshin and XIV aren't one to one (Genshin isn't an MMO) they're both live service titles competing for gamers time.
Genshin has a different problem tho. It's a gacha. And apparently an exploitative one at that. Tho very few gachas aren't.
I don't think they're competing at all. You never hear about MMOs being compared to Gacha games. Gachas are compared to other gahcas. Genshin gets compared to games like Tower of Fantasy for example.I'm not saying the writing in Genshin is perfect but it is certainly getting better over time (imo) and at the very least, serviceable for live service title. Also games like Genshin didn't start out with an engine full of issues. Personally I'd take xivs aesthetic over Genshins any day as imo Genshin doesn't look unique.
End of the day you're comparing 2 different types of games and that doesn't work nor make sense imo.

You know, if you actually read the article, from 2019, you'd have found what Yoshida meant:
https://www.pcgamesinsider.biz/news/...and-overwatch/
He did say, however, that if A Realm Reborn's audience did start to skew to this younger demographic that likes a different style of game that he may need to start to cater in that direction.
"This is happening because the video game industry continuously evolves. Just taking this example, traditional JRPGs are based on turn-based games," he said.
"And especially for the youth, they feel that it's quite outdated, they don't really understand.. Talking about the younger generation, someone up to the age of 25, because prior to the time they were born, there was relatively high-spec hardware for their gaming experiences - their character is rendered very realistically and they can actually control the characters directly - by pressing one button, the character will punch the enemies or fire the gun...
"That's why we don't feel those types of games are a threat because the basic game is designed completely differently. Because the audience that's playing Overwatch and Fortnite are probably in their 20s, they're a younger audience. If that younger audience becomes our main audience for FF14 or our current MMORPG ..."
Context is everything, and you all are weird for believing he was talking about 13 year olds.
It's not weird when the man, Yoshi-P could just make it clearer himself. You can't fault anyone for not doing a search for an outdated 4-year-old article that predates even the pandemic and think it still relevant and accurate of what he means today. There are plenty of things that have happened that went completely against other articles that Yoshi-P has been mentioned from 2019.You know, if you actually read the article, from 2019, you'd have found what Yoshida meant:

Idk about Overwatch but I can say that a lot of children play Fortnite... the minor audience for Fortnite is HUGE.

Is 13 somehow larger than 25 now?
Was Yoshida talking about 13 year olds in this quote from 2019? No.
Did you say "young players" in your OP? Yes.
Was that interpreted as early teenagers by posters in this thread? Yes.
Did you purposefully ignore the next sentence "Because the audience that's playing Overwatch and Fortnite are probably in their 20s, they're a younger audience."? Absolutely, because it doesn't fit your narrative.
Because its stupid to say that the audience is a set age range when everyone of all ages play. They said people in their 20s was playing fortnite, which yes they are. I posted a YouTube video showing that the audience extends below 20 because its not limited to 20 year olds. Which part of that is to hard for you to interpret?
