Maybe just maybe the game should have focused on courting Final Fantasy players instead of Fortnite and Overwatch players.

Pretty sure I remember you saying a few months back (like 2 or so) that you were quitting and wouldnt come back, and yet here you are as Valkyrie just mentioned, so obviously you must like something in the game
Might be a good time to make it make sense and quit for good if you despise this game so much and its direction, I disagree with a lot of things in FFXIV and you bet I voice them and I even argue with a lot of people on the forums about it, but there are quite a few things I also love about FFXIV, you on the other hand, just want to talk bad about the game and how it's going to only get worse because of the direction it's taking since it doesnt cater to what you want, well news flash, the direction it's taking will stay the direction it's taking, and if it no longers caters to you, that's too bad, time to move on bud and play something more to your liking, subscribing just for the forums to give us your novels of story that you'd like to see in the game is not helping the game's direction, you're literally just wasting your time, this is not your game, it's SE's.
most of these doomsdayers refuse to admit ffxiv is still the best on the market. they dont leave because they KNOW how much worse it is elsewherePretty sure I remember you saying a few months back (like 2 or so) that you were quitting and wouldnt come back, and yet here you are as Valkyrie just mentioned, so obviously you must like something in the game

They're both live service titles. The inclusion of gacha is irrelevant. Genshin also isn't even a true MMO, yet I still compared them. It isn't so much about the genre as much as it is games competing for younger audience's time. As I said in the post.I don't think they're competing at all. You never hear about MMOs being compared to Gacha games. Gachas are compared to other gahcas. Genshin gets compared to games like Tower of Fantasy for example.
Also games like Genshin didn't start out with an engine full of issues. Personally I'd take xivs aesthetic over Genshins any day as imo Genshin doesn't look unique.
End of the day you're comparing 2 different types of games and that doesn't work nor make sense imo.
I'd also note that FFXIV has crossovers with games of completely different genres altogether so on that basis alone making comparisons with other games seems perfectly fair to me.
Fall Guys, Monster Hunter, Nier...and I doubt those will be the only ones moving forward.
XIV literally takes away content that's expensive and very hard to obtain if you unsub. I'm pretty sure Genshin is OK offering you optional content you get to keep and isn't required to clear the game at all. In before "housing is optional, housing is niche, etc". I think they both have predatory elements-- it depends on the player. XIV doesn't pressure you to login but saying it doesn't monetize its player base as is commonly said is ridiculous in every sense of the phrase.
Which, to be clear, I'm not saying you're saying that. I just suspect someone is going to quote me and say "but XIV is so innocent" as their monthly fee is extracted and the Genshin player perhaps drops a few dollars on a roll if they want to.

"Young people" is a super broad category though. Like you can say a night club and a Jazz bar both serve the "nightlife" customers, but the target of audience and their own service are so different that it would make no sense on why one should try to court the others. Whenever someone to try to make a grand statement about such a broad category ... all I can say they're making a lot of assumption that often time just render the point moot.
Listen man I know we have has our history together but I kinda know how you feel about the game. There is SOMETHING you DO like about it or else you wouldn't keep coming back but you also have to know that SE is a business and it will steer itself in the direction of money. This means it it probably steering into a direction you don't like and very may likely keep going that direction.
The game isn't for you anymore. Hell it's not even for me anymore. It evolved into a way that just doesn't speak to us anymore. You for your reasons and me for my own.
When you deal with human beings, never count on logic or consistency.
Fluid like water. Smooth like silk. Pepperoni like pizza.
On the one hand this is true and we are making anecdotal claims. On the other hand, I have never met someone under 18 in the game or in real life who plays XIV. I haven't even met someone trying to lie or roleplay being 18 or younger. I don't see that age range in the community or as far as influencers/streamers. Yet we can look at other games and see younger audiences without trying. Fortnite, Roblox, CoD, etc. Now it could be there's a silent, faceless number of younger users in the game and maybe these other live service games just have a very aggressive younger user base..but come on now."Young people" is a super broad category though. Like you can say a night club and a Jazz bar both serve the "nightlife" customers, but the target of audience and their own service are so different that it would make no sense on why one should try to court the others. And to be clear who made it about players under 18? Yoshi P did by making references to popular games. Maybe there's a chance he's talking about 20 to 35. I doubt it. I mean even if he is, a lot of them are playing those other games anyway.
