I'm an old MMO veteran so I can't really comment on what appeals to younger players. But I know the biggest problem MMOs have always had is well, subscription based games are a tough sell to audiences without a ton of disposable income. Things like F2P, FPS, battle royales, MOBAs, etc. are also far more appealing to the younger crowd vs. more traditional MMOs. It's not really FF14's fault, that's just the trend within the game industry atm. Long running MMOs are also going to have a harder time getting new players the longer they go on. FF14 has like, 300+ hours of MSQ to get through even if all the old content is still there for any player to do. WoW rushes you through to the end game at the speed of light but the end game can be extremely intimidating to someone new. (the veteran player base in the latter also has a major problem with being toxic to new people)

Yoshi P has already talked about copying this idea by making some sort of fresh start feature for 7.0. I'm not sure if it could actually be implemented in time but I have no doubt it will show up eventually. The question really is that the MMO population is aging and simultaneously, open world / cooperative / online type content is trending more polished, more affordable, etc. Even if XIV rushes you to end game and gets 100 graphics updates, to your point, it's still this massive thing. It's still similar gameplay. I'm sure XIV can last 20 years, but the question is whether that's actually interesting or beneficial for the IP vs. just being easier and profitable.

Decided to do this PF search and presently on Zalera (or the data center):

    21 Duties for Content
    12 Other

    Of those Others:

1 PVE FC recruiting for content
1 person trying to buy an item
    3 Venues, Music oriented
    4 People advertising art
1 New Player RP Mentorship Class
    1 Gambling Game
1 Person being a weird ERPer.

    So...*shrug*

And to be fair, Roleplayers in a RPG is a legit playstyle. Lots of people only played ESO for the RP community, and a lot of games hoped to have entire RP servers or at least unofficial ones.

I've never seen any evidence of ERP in the game. But then, I never interact with other players beyond dungeon runs and hunt trains.

The point is still somewhat true though. There's an age gap between younger players and most of the people on this game. The closest age groups in this game to me are people that are usually at least 5-6 years older than me(mid twenties).

I definitely feel out of place at times and I think most of the people closer to my age just stay silent rather than trying to interact or find friend groups.

I'd argue that making more expansions free with no play limit is opening XIV to the free to play market. Even if you can't add friends or join FC's, there's still linkshells which can fulfill a similar purpose.

Same. Not sure what this person's class is about, but I know from time to time people did this in ESO and covered basic things like how to emote vs. speak, basics about the lore and what to look into specific to your character, staying in character, how to designate when you are OOC, and making sure not to god-mode over others. Stuff like that.

That's part of what I mean when I say stuff is different depending on alot of variables with pf. The game isn't just "full blown degeneracy" like some here claim.

Also not saying this to you directly but 18+ venues aren't all nsfw. Sometimes it's to weed out potential minors
