Young players are not going to play FF14

How exactly is current design gonna appeal to young gamers? Are they talking only about Japanese young gamers who like VNs? Or did CBU3 get their metrics from global player profile ages? Because let me break you the news: most people who chose 18 as their age and play this game probably aren't.

I like the game, but I have no idea which "modern gamer" would put up with the 300 hours of fetch quests followed by at the very best 10 minutes of actual gameplay. He mentions Fortnite in an interview from 4 DARN YEARS AGO, but that game currently and very ironically has you more time engaging with the game systems than FFXIV. I'm currently in Post-SB quests and I feel bad for whomever gets DT and has to put up with the absolutely thrilling experience of teleporting around for almost 20 minutes to speak to Nanamo because she needs to deliver exposition, I0m at a point where I just read a story summary every post patch to know up to which point I'll just skip dialogues and it's usually three quarters of the patch storyline.

They want to attract new players but do absolutely nothing to improve the completely misserable climb to newer content, they have added Duty Support to make MSQ more accessible, but they have done nothing to make the game more engaging. Sure, wow, now I can advance at a snail's pace this very easy dungeon that will teach me nothing about how to play with others without getting into a long queue if I don't pick one of the two most boring roles in the game, but whenever I get to play with others things keep either dying before they can do anything interesting, or things kill us so fast that we have no idea what went on. People exaggerate when they say players in this game are unskilled, the problem si that the game does NOTHING to push the players to become better and it has, historically, had terrible difficulty scaling, with Normal content being chill one moment and then pushing the players off a cliff without warning to the point it gets nerfed into an absolute slog.

Younger players will leave because there are more engaging and "fast" things to play. Horny 50 year olds who made a catgirl and got lost in the myriad other endless systems will discover ERP and Venues and stay because of parasocial relationships and addiction.

Yep, I see there are 20 year olds playing this game so how did they get here. The total incredulity with which you characterize things is nothing but hyperbole. This forum has degraded beyond words, there is no moderation and there really needs to be. The hyperbole is through the roof and when you are able to find a post with well thought out ideas or suggestions it gets hyjacked by people who seek attention. It totally amazes me how some people are so bored and miserable they come to a gaming forum to take out their frustrations on others. Stop using these forums as therapy for a unhappy life.

I am 32. My first MMO was Flyff, I played WoW up to Burning Crusade, met my wife in GW2 and I delved a little in ESO until Summerset and played Lost Ark at launch and left when I saw the scam it was. You can guess I actually really like MMOs.

Go any day, enter party finder, take a screenshot, and help us count how many Venue/ERP ads are there compared to actual parties. Go to the subreddit and check the AFK at Limsa threads, or go to Limsa yourself. Also, how many other MMO communities have used real life billboard ads to promote clubs or have an ERP scene so prevalent that content creators have interviewed virtual sex workers?

I mean, even the subreddit, the one place where criticism is almost always downvoted, has started upvoting state of the game discussions and comments. And no need to be a condescending arse because you sure look as bad as some of the most toxic people in the forum. My criticism wasn't aimed at no user in particular, yours does.

I thought it was from last year, but my god if it's actually from 2019 then there truly is no hope for this game. And it's pretty obvious that the vision is being implemented when you think about all the dumbing down in ShB.

You can see that in XVI, too. I'm not saying it's not an impressive looking game or that it didn't require skill and effort but what I value in a game (good gameplay) wasn't there or rather, what was there was too shallow with no real skill expression (like in DMC). Feels more like they tripled down in their philosophy after ShB, EW and their respective dumbing downs.

I mean if you know what you're paying for and you don't mind more power to you I guess, but I'm willing to bet most of those catgirls don't advertise you're gonna be "playing" with a dude lol.

Unlike what the poster above who quoted me said, I know this isn't the only MMO with ERP, it's just that we can't deny the prevalence or it in our game and how it has bled into the real world at times and we've suffered a sucker punch to our reputation, and PF isn't doing anything to help dispel any doubt about it. It's problematic when the game wants to supposedly cater to a younger demographic, keeps a T rating, and still permits 18+ content and gambling ads in PF. That combined with the lack of revising new player experience and older content gives an impression of general neglect.

"modern gamer"

A "gamer" is not a specific type of player with very specific interests. That's just as true of a modern gamer as a older gamer. Some are more story oriented, some are more action oriented, some are more puzzle oriented. Some use mobile, some use consoles, some use PCs.

A game doesn't have to appeal to the "mainstream" to be a success. It just has to appeal to enough to turn a profit.

As many keep trying to point out, it's up to the player to find the game that suits what they want. Game developers will adjust what they make based on their vision for their game.

This game is in a transition. It's completed it's first 10 years. Now it's moving toward a new vision it has set for the next 10 years. Players either adjust to the new vision or decide if they're better off taking their money elsewhere.

It's not a question of whether the game is what you think it should be. The question is whether you can have fun in the game for what it is.

What are you doing with your game time that you've become so obsessed with the ERP venues?

They don't intrude on my game play. I stick to looking at the postings for group content that filter to the top of the list and ignore anything that comes up at the bottom under Other.

It shouldn't have any noticeable impact on your game experience... unless you choose to let it. Most players just ignore the ERP and go about their normal routines.

I mean I think the game won't get younger players because it isn't available on mobile, at least from interacting with my brother's kids and chatting with them about gaming. They are all about whatever they can play on their phones and only recently started playing stuff on my brother's consoles and even then it is mainly just cross platform games already on their phones.
