Should the devs appologise to the community

I know this guy is a troll but I’d really enjoy them actually try to prove that everything they rant about is in fact a minority opinion and not just flared nostrils and foot stamping

I'd rather people say what they do not like, why it is not fun for them, and what potential solution they'd like to see.

The dev team is only so big and their imagination can only go so far when working quickly. We can be the fresh perspective they need if we put forward some cool ideas.

1 idea I have is I'd love to see a fast track relic pathway. ARR had a step in relic where you had to do some trials. Dawntrail could do the same, offering Extreme trial clears as a pathway to a faster relic upgrade to whatever other path they pick (at least for one step). Why? Well, it could give people more incentive to try harder content. That being said, I know it isn't an amazing idea but hey, it's a start.

Who has the next idea of what they'd like? No wrong answers, in fact "wrong" answers can lead other people to think of really cool things!

No, not everyone is unhappy with the current state of the game. Sure, most of us hope for some cool changes come Dawntrail given Endwalker was on the tail end of COVID in terms of development and their dev team was exhausted, but all things considered I am still having fun.

The people I've noticed most unhappy with this expansion are those who are forcing themselves to play when they've stopped having fun. It's okay to take a break, Yoshi actually advises you do that to enjoy other media. It's okay to leave and come back when you see new content that you want to experience. It is not healthy to force yourself to play a game you're not enjoying.

Instead of asking for an apology (they've done nothing wrong, entertainment is subjective and plenty of people are still having fun) make suggestions on what you'd like to see instead. There was recently a thread (a big one) on the max ilvl for the capstone Endwalker trial being too high so new players couldn't fully experience it. They've just announced they'll be adjusting it as a result of the feedback.

Demanding an apology does nothing to help even your own position, it does not help them understand what you want as a player. Making suggestions on things you'd like to see and providing productive, solution oriented criticism has more potential to bring about the change you want to see.

By the same token, we're also told that our feedback doesn't matter and that they just rely on internal metrics. Also, why would it be down to the player to provide them solutions? People routinely provide in depth, critical feedback here. I can point to multiple posts doing just that. There isn't a dearth of such feedback. How much of that actually makes it to them and is taken into account? Based on what we've seen regarding the healer situation? My guess is not much. Nonetheless, they are the professional game designers, so it is their job to listen to the customer and come up with solutions they know they're capable of delivering on.

Agreed, apologies are ultimately meaningless. However having seen their recent interview comments? I wouldn't hold my breath as to what you mentioned.

It's not SE's fault players are incapable of pacing themselves and each try to consume content faster than a child's birthday party at an all-you-can-eat-resturant. Stop and smell the rolanberries once in a while and maybe players won't run out of things to do in the game...

I think there are a lot of people who offer up good solutions, you just need to parse through the never ending slop that gets posted here. The issue with the specific poster I quoted is if you read their post history they tend to just make heated aggressive statements with no substance.

Let me flip the question on you:

Why should they apologize?

"the game was'nt going to deliver any real meaningful change" - why is this something to apologize for? When players are enjoying a thing, they often don't want changes, or only want mild iterations, which we got.

"seeing the clear nature of the cash shop" - what is "the clear nature of the cash shop"? The cash shop has always been for cosmetic things you don't need in the game and for old one-time rewards to be available for people that want them. Unlike most games with cash shops, FFXIV's is firmly not in the game itself, ruining immersion (contrast, say, GW2 throwing the cash shop in your face every time you interact with an in-game vendor). I get some people are pissy about the Shadowlord, but that was true as far back as Cruise Chaser.

"vs what we pay our sub for" - what do we "pay our sub for"? I pay my sub because I like playing the game, not because I like getting cash shop items. I enjoy the encounters, I like the world, etc.

"7.0 will be a min of 6months between patches of basically... nothing..." - has been true in every past expansion, hasn't it? And many MMOs are much worse. I still remember the TWELVE (12) month no-new content drought at the end of Wrath of the Lich King, which was still WoW's top expansion in that game's history.

I'm not seeing things that they need to "apologize" for in your list.

I see a list of things you dislike, but other than mild annoyance at the cash shop personally, I don't really share any of them since I see them as normal or expected. I like the game and feel I'm getting my money's worth from it. If I didn't, I wouldn't have an active sub. And several of your complaints weren't even about the state of the game, they seem to be about your own desire or expectations - for example, FFXIV has used the same patch and general content cycle since SB if not HW, yet you expected "meaningful change", why? And the cash shop isn't directly part of the game nor "the state of the game". So turning the question around on you:

Why should the developers apologize for "the state of the game", exactly? What's abysmally wrong with "the state" of the game itself?

That is crazy to even think that they need to apologize for something that they have NO CONTROL over. They can not control what people do or why they do it. Besides you need to bark up another tree if you want an apology, you should be asking the leadership for that, not the Devs.

But seriously, I do wonder why there is so much of a disconnect between the players that post here and those I see in the game. I mean, when I am on here, I see doom and gloom posts like this but when I get on the game, it is very different. I wonder why?

Also there is no disconnect between the forums and in game or at least not as big as you make it seem to be, the only difference is the amount of newer players which of course changes the opinion as they have a backlog of content to do. The opinion shifts once people are done with that backlog.

Probably don’t see them in game either because most of us log in for about a minute, see nothing going on other than maybe a hunt train and just decide “Guess I’ll log off and find something else to play”
