guys i beat the 15 hour game in one sitting this game sucks! how dare it only entertain me for 15 hours!! i get to play it once and its over?!?!?!
looks i can be exagerative too and add nothing.
I don't think that's actually the case at all. It's been a concern for some time now that the game offers very little to players who are all caught up on the latest batch of MSQ's to the point where even after taking breaks veteran players are returning to find that there really isn't much to do even if they artificially pace themselves. It's not SE's fault players are incapable of pacing themselves and each try to consume content faster than a child's birthday party at an all-you-can-eat-resturant. Stop and smell the rolanberries once in a while and maybe players won't run out of things to do in the game...
To say nothing of the fact that there is now more time than ever before between each new patch. The problem is further escalated with the deliberate decision to deny players an equivalent to Ishgard Reconstruction and Eureka/Bozja which both proved successful at keeping many veteran players engaged with something to do beyond running roulettes for tomestones.
The concerns aren't being raised by individuals expecting to be entertained 24/7 and so I'll just refer to a couple of my own previous posts on the subject whenever it has arisen:
As has been pointed out many times already, a lot of players with concerns about FFXIV are playing other games and aren't looking to be entertained by one specific game 24/7.
They're simply recognising that less and less content is being designed with staying power in mind and that even after taking breaks they're returning to see that elements of the game they enjoy are being taken away for the sake of those who do little but idle in cities and player houses whilst heavily altering the game and their character to be utterly unrecognisable as 'FFXIV.'I've yet to see where people are actually asking for content to keep them entertained 24/7. Many people are already taking breaks and playing other games only to come back to FFXIV and find that it isn't adding anything with much in the way of staying power.
It isn't rocket science and it's honestly disappointing to see people deceptively try to frame the concerns and criticism as something entirely different to what it is.
The game has tipped too far in the direction of appeasing those who don't even play the game but instead idle and attend 'venues'. Given that such an approach comes at the expense of content with staying power such as Bozja, Eureka and Ishgard Reconstruction it isn't difficult to see why concerns are being raised.
ITT: vocal (veritably screeching) minority demands satisfaction!!!
Should they apologize?
No, not everyone is unhappy with the current state of the game. Sure, most of us hope for some cool changes come Dawntrail given Endwalker was on the tail end of COVID in terms of development and their dev team was exhausted, but all things considered I am still having fun.
The people I've noticed most unhappy with this expansion are those who are forcing themselves to play when they've stopped having fun. It's okay to take a break, Yoshi actually advises you do that to enjoy other media. It's okay to leave and come back when you see new content that you want to experience. It is not healthy to force yourself to play a game you're not enjoying.
Instead of asking for an apology (they've done nothing wrong, entertainment is subjective and plenty of people are still having fun) make suggestions on what you'd like to see instead. There was recently a thread (a big one) on the max ilvl for the capstone Endwalker trial being too high so new players couldn't fully experience it. They've just announced they'll be adjusting it as a result of the feedback.
Demanding an apology does nothing to help even your own position, it does not help them understand what you want as a player. Making suggestions on things you'd like to see and providing productive, solution oriented criticism has more potential to bring about the change you want to see.
My concern with “vote with your wallet” is that the developers will simply just design content for those that continue to pay, and be less incentivized to create content for those who have unsubbed. To add to the (good) points already made, 'vote with your wallet' could also send the entirely wrong message.
I sure as hell wouldn't want this game to start looking at Free to Play business models, but I know of at least one MMO that did so when subscriptions dropped significantly and, sadly, developed the sort of cash-grab mentality (mostly around gambleboxes) that would make the average smartphone game developer proud.
I don’t fear that. They spent two years catering to supposed new players who can’t finish Satasha without a trust telling them what to do. Even though it would seem the number of new players from that one data set is an all time low lol.
Some posters here could have totally fooled me then with the way they post let alone with the tone of their posts. As some in the last two years have practically behaved as though this game should be keeping them busy for that amount of time. Heck some have even used that mindset to belittle others with. Now I do get that some are probably memeing (which could we just maybe stop doing so much) and don't actually want the game to behave like a 2nd job. Yet when all you see is exaggeration (or I hope is mostly exaggerated crap) that's what gets taken more often than not as exactly what some want. This community loves to exaggerate and meme stuff so far into the ground that new players or those who seem interested in the game end up thinking those beliefs are actually genuine. Of course there players who actually do hold those viewpoints as their viewpoints, but it would be nice to distinguish between those and those who are like Stormpeaks etc all who are the types who only exaggerate or meme. If only to belittle or mock other posters. Who come off as someone who is very burnt out on the game and might be in denial of said burn out. Cause for some reason admittance of burn out is seen as something to be ashamed of.I don't think that's actually the case at all.
