As for someone else's remark, I like focusing on 1 thing. So if it's gearing I will focus on it. The transition from shadowbringers to endwalker got me to quit FFXIV for half a year specifically because I have negative interest in weekly timegate drip feed gearing.

For coming back to FFXIV again (only because I quit WoW because timegate is even worse there) I now have to pretend only 1-89 content exists otherwise I will quit again if steered into timegate ilvl systems. ie, just doing duty roulettes to level jobs, doing gold saucer stuff, filling out wondrous tails with constant rerolls.

This way it's depreciating returns as you're rounding out your set if you hit the cap, rather than a full stop no more loot for the week cap. This would also make groups progress through lower difficulty modes first, rather than cheese their way through the hardest mode out the door.

In FFXIV you have so many classes/jobs you'll never run out of gear to farm for if allowed to. One of my retainers is FILLED with 130/270/400/530 poetic gear for jobs I've yet to even touch once. Just the ability to farm ahead was enough to get me to mass grind poetics.
They could also just give a character buff for first clear of the week that guarantees loot. Once it gets consumed the droprates would be low.
