No point raising objective critiques of the game here, when the only people here and actively posting are gonna be folks who're subbed because they enjoy the total non-direction this game is headed in. Personally I'm hoping Variant + 6.5 alliance raid are decent. If both turn out to be mid, then that'll likely be a wrap for me because this story hasn't engaged me in a while and I don't care about savage raiding.
In playing other games, I've met plenty of former XIV players who echo OP's sentiment. It's why they all quit. OP's statements aren't wrong, but if you're new to the game or love amusing yourself with repetitive and pointless busywork, it's hard to notice it right away. Hell, I'm pretty simple in this regard. For a long time, I was only logging in to play alliance raids. I was cool with my own personal "pointless busywork" because I found it subjectively agreeable. But as more people quit the game, I couldn't even do that because the queues wouldn't pop. And what'd Square do to try and retain these players? Absolutely nothing. Hell, they rolled out a live letter where Yoshi couldn't even get off his Nintendo Switch, and then he told people to go play the new zelda and apologized for 6.4's release coinciding with other (better) games. OP's absolutely right. 6.4 is a great patch for people who want to basically log in once a week for reclears and then spend the rest of their time playing the new Street Fighter or the new Zelda or whatever. And if you don't raid, I sure hope you're enjoying the venue club scene because there sure as shit isn't a whole lot else unless you literally just started playing last week.
To be fair, ShB at least had the covid excuse to fall back on when the content rollouts were slow af, and the post-story was actually enjoyable because it was leading into the conclusion (the Weapon questline was also lit af), whereas EW seems to be some weird filler arc for ff4 fans to wank over. I'm not even a huge fan of the story, but 5.3's conclusion was cathartic as fuck. Name a moment like that in post-EW, what even stands out? The meatbun scene? That said, don't get me wrong I'm not about to be out here defending shb either. I'm just saying there was at least a semi-valid reason for it being the empty shitshow it turned out to be (pretty sure at one point it went like 9 months with no updates lol), and at least it did have a good story to look forward to.
