I'm not even found of Pope Francis, but attacking the chief for presenting it is ridiculous, and the only reason anyone would attack that chief is if they hate Catholics in general.
It did not make sense at all within the context. Any more than it made sense that this same chief worked for years to convince Native people to accept an oil pipeline being built on their land. Just another corporate bootlicker who cares more about money than the planet and their people. My mother was a residential school survivor as well and it makes me sick to see him give away a sacred symbol for what is essentially an apology for crimes against humanity.
