Review of 6.3 Story Content

I find it dumb when folks talk about things being predictable like we don't get live letters hinting out and giving us clues about what's coming up. Many people were complaining about Zero not having much character development yet then when the story DOES give it to her it's a problem. Same song and dance we always see with the community.

I dont think his issue was the character development per say, rather the means of how the character develops via his writing. The "growth by power of friendship" is getting a bit formulaic even for a FF game. I think the solo duty scene does it well, but I would rather have more of it then have Zero go immediately to "I do it my own path now". It was smart to have her be questioning the system already but to immediately do it is another.

I still have some apprehensions about Zero, but I think the attention for character growth is nice -- its more than some Scions have had for a while.

Maybe you should, and I'm saying that honestly, not sarcastically. IMO if anyone play FF14 solely for the story, the best bang for your buck provbably is just finish the launch story, then don't come back until a month before the next expansion, go through 3 years worth of after/story contents before jumping right into the next expansion again.


Don't get me wrong, I do love FF14's story. The high it deliver is up there with some of the best single player story. But like I said above, it's structured in a way most of that is already delivered at launch. Anyone who hope for even half of the experience in the following years will only find disappointment.

Thankfully I haven't played EW for story since 6.0 >_>

I guess I don't call it "power of friendship" unless its made more obvious like against the Endsinger. (Done very well imo). As you say Zero is questioning it all. That scene where she lost to those 3 guys was a nice way to show she DOES have that resolve somewhere within herself but just like the time in Garl it would seem she's missing a key component. I'd call that trust in others as she was alone both times that happened. In Garl she had us there to pick her up n keep fighting. Similar situation to ES but far more grounded I'd say.

Her speaking with the last fiend was a good move as well imo. He's my favorite of the 4 (dank music as well xD)

I think there's one major point everyone's overlooking.

This is a filler arc. It's not meant to be 'life-changing philosophical storytelling' like Endwalker was, or a 'flawlessly written post-apocalyptic isekai' like Shadowbringers. It's basically "Hey, we need a short story involving an established threat, to lead into the next major story arc. I know, let's do an FF4-inspired story that deals with the voidsent, they've been quiet for a while".

It took LITERALLY the base game plus 2 expansions to even build up to Shadowbringers but you want them to bring out something amazing right away? Sorry this is not a stand alone FF game where they have to rush the plot. They are allowed to do serious set-up here and to any older Millennials playing this MMO seeing the FF4 assets used this way is nostalgia turned up to 11.

btw on the Alliance raid maybe go watch the cut scenes again it had nothing to do with Dynamis. Graha just brought it up. Let me ask you. What type of magic do you think they used when they created those objects? They literally repeated a line that one of the main characters said at the end of Endwalker. That was the give away for me as to who the 12 are right there. I mean come on.

If you are going to come on here and criticize one of the better Alliance raids I have seen in this MMO maybe pay attention to the story first. They are literally wrapping up one of the biggest questions everyone had after they gave such detail on the convocation.

I am telling it like it is, mate, I love the game , the story and think they have done a hell of a job. There are no "white knights", only jaded cynics like you who cant handle others who like what you dont.
